What's new

India buy 920 AL-31FP jet engines for its Su30MKI

.
Does that mean a su 30 mki would need engine replacement 4 times in its lifetime? (6000/1500 hrs). That means total of 6+2 (original) engines per aircraft. So 920 engines will be able to service onle 153 aircrafts (920/6)??

That Math does not really add up. When the life (running hours) of the engine is up; that does not mean that it must be thrown away. Some parts of it may need to be discarded but a great deal of it can be replaced/refurbished. Like wise for aircraft airframes. They can be rebuilt in parts, if necessary.

So the numbers that we are looking at are for replacements and newbuilds as well as 'ready to use units' for operational/war reserves. Without having to go looking around in urgent situations or scrounging around in desperation.

I think we need to upgrade MKI fleet..... atleast Radar, EW suite etc.... Like SU-35....I doubt that level... atleast closer....

Radar is already being upgraded. The next 30 to be delivered are going to have the Zhuk AE radar. The EW suite is already highly advanced, but I suppose it can still be advanced a lot more.

That, plus the incorporation of BrahMos ALCM and French AAMs, is going to make Su-30MKI far better than it already is.

.
Russian Products are always good ….But the issue is delay …. Delay and delay.

What are you talking about, in this case the deal was signed in OCTOBER 2012 and deliveres have begun in MARCH 2013 this is pretty good by any measure. Other deals are not relevant to this deal.

radar will be upgraded in two parts first part will be software update with new mods and capabilities, on second part they will change it to aesa. radar in consideration is bars.

This is what the "SUPER" MKI and MLU (not the full "SUPER" UPG but many of its features) is all about. The MKI fleet will begin this process in late 2014 to early 2015.

We already use Bars radar. It's a PESA radar.

The AESA we're getting is the Zhuk AE.

yes we already use bars, that's why they consider bars only for upgrade also.

VIKI in my mind... what to say.

Sukhoi Su-30MKI - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Radar
The forward-facing NIIP N011M Bars (Panther) is a powerful integrated passive electronically scanned array radar. The N011M is a digital multi-mode dual frequency band radar.[50] The N011M can function in air-to-air and air-to-land/sea mode simultaneously while being tied into a high-precision laser-inertial or GPS navigation system. It is equipped with a modern digital weapons control system as well as anti-jamming features. N011M has a 400 km search range and a maximum 200 km tracking range, and 60 km in the rear hemisphere.[51] The radar can track 15 air targets and engage 4 simultaneously.[51] These targets can even include cruise missiles and motionless helicopters. The Su-30MKI can function as a mini-AWACS as a director or command post for other aircraft. The target co-ordinates can be transferred automatically to at least four other aircraft. The radar can detect ground targets such as tanks at 40–50 km.[51] The Bars radar will be replaced by Zhuk-AESA in all Su-30MKI aircraft.[52][53]

I can't find anything on the internet about it. Can you please give a link?

search take off mag 2013 feb and download.the deal is just at proposal stage, nothing is finalized, it was an interview from some Russian guy who present the manufacture.

can you please differentiate between two??also f135

Engines
On its first flights, the PAK FA was expected to use a pair of conventional Saturn 117S engines, but a new engine 117 (AL-41F1) powered its first flight.[73] The new engine features a digital control system (FADEC), and is reportedly capable of producing 33,000 lbs (147 kN) of thrust in afterburner, has a dry weight of 1420 kilogram and a thrust to weight ratio of 10.5:1.[74]
According to Sukhoi director Mikhail Pogosyan, the 117 (AL-41F1) is a new fifth generation engine built specifically for the PAK-FA. Pogosyan has clarified that claims of the use of an older engine are incorrect. Though the specifics of the new engine remain classified, information provided has included: increased engine thrust by 2.5 tonnes over the AL-31 engine, a reduction in engine weight by 150 kilograms (330 lb). These changes allow the aircraft to supercruise, sustaining supersonic flight speeds without using afterburners.[74] Mikhail Pogosyan further mentioned that this engine (117) meets the Russian Air Force's requirements and will be installed in production PAK-FA aircraft.[74]
The engine generates a larger thrust and has a complex automation system, to facilitate flight modes such as maneuverability. It is expected that each engine will be able to independently vector its thrust upwards, downward or side to side. Vectoring one engine up with the other one down can produce a twisting force, which would enable the PAK FA to be the first fifth generation fighter with full 3-D thrust vectoring along all three aircraft axes: pitch, yaw and roll. These engines will incorporate infrared and RCS reduction measures.[75][76]
"The first engine will be assembled in two years and the testing will be started in the network of the engine’s full-scale development. This is a brand new engine, that is why its development is taking much time", Marchukov said. According to him, the specific weight of the new powerplant will be 30% lower as compared to AL-41F1 ("Product 117", the upgraded version of AL-41F1S engine intended for Su-35).[citation needed]
As expected, the life-cycle cost will also be 30% lower as compared to AL-41F1S. According to Marchukov, “the engine should be cheaper”. The new engine for PAK FA (also known as “Product 30”) will be distinct from “Product 117”. The first vehicles will be powered by the “Product 117” engines until the launch of “Product 30”’s production.[citation needed]
There is little information about the new engine of T-50. According to preliminary facts, the engine will have increased thrust and fuel efficiency as compared to AL-41F1. Allegedly, the powerplant will have a thrust of about 107 kN in cruise mode and 176 kN in full afterburner mode.
