India buy 920 AL-31FP jet engines for its Su30MKI

Russia's Ufa Engine Industrial Association begins supplying India with AL-31FP jet engines for India's Air Force's Su30MKI fighters.

Contract for supplying 920 pcs of the engines was signed in October 2012.
Engines will be delivered to India during the next 10 years.
The very first 10 engines butch will be delivered till April 2012.

No, the deal was signed last october and they now started to send them to India.


920 is a huge number But I guess having a big stock is always good

According to the 2000 contract on licensed production of Su30MKI in India, India got the option to buy additional number of the engines.
In October 2012 option was turn to a contract.
Till 1 April first 10 engines will be delivered to India.

If there weren't Indian orders for Sukhoi fighters, possibly Irkut factory and Sukhoi itself wouldn't survived.
And now Sukhoi and its Indian counterparts together work on 5 th generation fighter.

There were lofty claims that India was producing AL-31FP engines at HAL factory. This claim said we did engine manufacturing right from metallurgy ........as usual HAL claims falls flat.....no even screw driver technology.
