India builds world's largest biometric ID database

This related to Home Land Security as once profiling of all citizens is done... it will speed up in Crime scene investigations etc.

Apart from it also help in detecting illegal immigrants like Bangladeshi or spies hiding in India as thousands of pakistani comes India with visa but don't goes back to pakistan and live here illegally some of them are spies or terrorists.

Just a finger print scan by a scaner that will be available in each and every police station and it will detect illegal Bangladeshi immigrant or pak spy.

Still to go for it..Very long Queue..
Some villagers had come for it and were hopeful that this will be delivered without any "charhawa"...

Same here... when it was launched some months back , taken aback by the long que.

Longer que was seen only infront of liquor shops in Kerala and i thought , there might be a bottle free for the UID.. never bothered to register as the que never decreased.

Now some nationalised bank has set up facility after the initial camp-like for UID registration.

Still havent registered, not thinking any sooner either.

Whats the problem with all the Pakistanis on this thread ? Its our money and we decide how to spend it, just the logistical challenge of doing such an activity in India is beyond words and something that Pakistan can never even imagine, so please keep your noose out of things that you really dont have an idea about.

another sink hole of indian money...
something pakistans NADRA did decades ago..in a simple way...
india will do at stupid costs in many years with no guarantee of completion.
india is good at complicaying simple things.

Valid points which India govt is ready to admit but this project has identified past issues and is very much on course to achieve its aims and indeed supersede them. This project is being run like a private company and is headed by one of India's most successful Billionaires (who gave up his position as CEO of one of Asia's richest corporations to take an UNPAID position at the head of this GOVT project).

Like this article and many others say, the true potential for this project has not even began to be achieved: this project will open a whole new world to millions of people which India's privte sector are more than happy to exploit. Such as internet banking and shopping as well as digital inventory and stock delivery for small businesses. The list is simply endless and this project will be worth it ten fold, at least.
Yes, got it done for the whole family about two months ago. They take a scan of the eyes (retina), two facial photographs from different angles and finger prints of all fingers, both hands. This will be the primary identity proof in India in a few years. Expecting the UID cards by post any time now.

Great news, please do share your experience of the project and do share when it arrives.
