I'm sure this is in line with India's ambitions to eventually become a "superpower". We don't need to waste our time and resources by building a similar missile. As long as all of ours can hit India, we're good.

Its is not that Missile and Nuclear tech is against India only, previously the ambitions where as such but once you establish a vast infrustructure you know you that your limits are the sky beyond. Pakistan as a single strenghten Nuclear Power in the Muslim world should continue in developement of Deterents like Shaheen III and IV etc to be able to hit required destinations any where in the world If situations are imposed on Pakistans soverenity. Time will be with those only who will keep pace with the technological advancements of the West...

Dude, Spirits should be high but keep one thing in mind that the things you learn from others will always keep you behind them, no nation can catchup with the Advacements West has achieved. You will advance and they will advance more. But if you donot try advancement in all fields you will lack behind.

See, here's the problem though. First of all when it comes to open conflicts, there really isn't a "Muslim World"... and if there is one, Pakistan certainly isn't at it's forefront, Saudi assumes that role for the Sunni Muslims and Iran does it for the Shias. Hence to assume this "responsibility" by investing vast amounts of resources that Pakistan doesn't have for the sanctity of this non existent "Muslim world" makes absolutely no sense. The nation has already been stretched to its limits and has been on the verge of collapse many times, primarily due to acts of other Muslim states who too choose to live out this "Muslim World" fantasy at the expense of Pakistan.

It behooves Pakistan to instead make amends with it's neighbors, maintain a credible military deterrent and then divert the American/western aid toward human development.

Definetly my previous post was meant to be jocking if you made statements like the below,

then suddenly you change your stance and come with

India set to test upgraded ballistic missile in 2009 ​

NEW DELHI, January 7 (RIA Novosti) - India will test fire a new intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) with the range of up to 5,000 kilometers (3,100 miles) in the beginning of 2009, a senior defense research official said on Monday.

The new missile, dubbed as Agni III+ is an upgraded version of the Agni III intermediate-range ballistic missile developed by India. Agni III has a range of up to 4,000 km (about 2,500 miles) and can carry a single nuclear warhead.

"We have scheduled the [ICBM] test for the beginning of 2009," said Vijay Kumar Saraswat, program director for ballistic missile development at the Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO).

Agni-III is the third in the Agni series of missiles. The Agni I has a range of 700-800 km (up to 500 miles), while the Agni-II as a range of 2,000-2,500 km (1,500 miles). They are claimed to be a part of the "credible deterrence" against China and Pakistan.

Sarasvat also said India had been developing the Agni IV ICBM with the range of 6,000 km (over 3,700 miles). The tests of the new missile have been scheduled for 2010, the official said.

Pakistan should follow with development of its own 10,000 km missile (or just get some ToT for it). It needs to think about space. It does have its benefits, and shouldn't get too far behind India in this field.

Range of Agni-III series of missile is very confusing as quoted by the different articles since its successful test in a previous year. Some of Newspapers and editorial quoted its range from 3000km and 5000 km. Now this is latest addition which is posted above quoted its range of 4000 km. I failed to understand exactly how much range has earmarked to Agni-III? Could someone clarify my confusion?

Kent, I believe that none of these Agni designs have actually been range tested. Since Agni IV is reported to have a range of 6.000km it seems logic to me that this would atleast double the current max range.
There's no use to have two designs capable of reaching 5.000km and 6.000km respectively, seems like a waste of time and money.

Actually the Long range Missiles of India are normally Liquid fueled and considered slower. They now want to turn to Solid fuel based Ballastic Missiles also and may be this is want they are planing
