I dunno ma'am how that happens over there in your countries 'cause I have never....ever....ever heard of anyone impersonating a member of the armed forces in Pakistan let alone gaming the system as one. Our military guys @Xeric and @Icarus could tell us more about that but judging by the fact that the Army just reinstated a Major General just to court martial him for corruption, I dunno if impersonating a soldier and receiving benefits for that is going to go unnoticed with them.

Are there any local level benefits from the community given to military members that could lead to abuse? In the US it's for attention, girls:disagree: - I've dated military guys, two of them, but if anyone tries to flaunt their military service or try to fake it in order to get my attention they're getting a sarcastic look and laughter - sometimes free food or drinks, all local level stuff since the federal level is harder to work-over - largely due to an excessive bureaucracy, but it's brought about by the US population's admiration and respect for their military members and their service to their nation and their desire to give back to those that serve.

This doesn't happen too much in Norway, because our dynamic is similar to Israel in that a lot of people have military experience and thus the incentive from the general public to offer them benefits is low, but it does happen in the US a lot at a local level:

Vets are offered treatment not afforded to the general public and that does help spurn impersonations. Does Pakistan offer any such deals or benefits for its military members - current or ex? If not, this could help explain the discrepancy noted between the two nations.

And you two @nihonjin and @Technogaianist have to rub in the salt in my wounds!??! @#$%&^+>][!!!!!!!!!!

Don't think of it that way, both Nihonjin and I have served - he in the JMSDF and I in the RNoAF, I echo your sentiment, and while I can't speak for him, I'd assume he'd be less then receptive of people impersonating military members either.

I support your position:cheers:.

Pakistanis respect their military personnel a lot too but I don't think that our soldiers get discounts or freebies like that at most I think they get a reduced fare at a select few government institutions and that too, I think, requires proof of being in the military.

Come to think of it whatever schemes are there to benefit military personnel like being entitled to a residential plot after X many years of services - that gets deducted from your pay along the way - is managed by the Armed Forces itself.

@Technogaianist - You know I actually wrote my undergrad thesis on the business and financial analysis of Fauji Fertilizer Company - a leading urea manufacturer of the Fauji Foundation. The Foundation looks after the welfare of ex-Servicemen and their dependents by doing things like ensuring that the our martyr's families are taken care of by the Army by providing their children education and accommodation or by ensuring that our disabled veterans are taught skills to make them functioning members of the society again etc.
