Islamabad: Nine candidates on Wednesday filed nominations for Pakistan’s presidential election, with the ruling PML-N's India-born nominee Mamnoon Hussain emerging a clear frontrunner for the poll to be held on July 30.

“I will be the President for everybody. I will resign from my party office if I become President,” Mr Hussain said. Among the candidates who filed nominations were Raza Rabbani of the opposition PPP and six independents.

Meanwhile, Pakistan Supreme Court on Wednesday ordered holding of Presidential election on July 30, a week ahead of the original date, in response to a petition from a close aide of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif seeking early date due to the ongoing Ramzan.
The Court’s ruling for polls to be held on an earlier date is to enable a number of lawmakers, who would be part of the electoral college, to complete rituals associated with the holy month of Ramzan.

Many of the old timers who were born before 1947 may have been born on the otherside of the border. Former Pres. Musharraf was born in modern day India territory, and PM Singh was born in modern day Pakistan territory.
