India blames Pakistan for Afghanistan suicide attack.

NEW DELHI: India strongly reacted against the attack on its consulate at Jalalabad in eastern Afghanistan on Saturday morning, with official sources blaming the attack on Pakistani nationals.
Suicide bombers on Saturday detonated an explosives-laden vehicle near the Indian Consulate in Jalalabad city, bordering Pakistan in eastern Afghanistan, killing at least eight children and wounding 21 others.
Speaking on condition of anonymity, officials in New Delhi said inputs from Kabul revealed late in the evening that the bombers were all Pakistani nationals who stayed in Kunar for seven days. "Last night, they drove to Jalalabad and targeted the Indian consulate. In Kunar, they were hosted by some Arab terrorists," said a source. No Indian was hurt in the incident.
"This attack has once again highlighted that the main threat to Afghanistan's security and stability stems from terrorism and the terror machine that continues to operate from beyond its borders," foreign ministry spokesperson Syed Akbaruddin said here.
India has in the past blamed the Haqqani network of carrying out attacks on the Indian mission in Kabul. The Jalalabad attack comes at a time when India and Pakistan are trying to resume the peace process, stalled in January. Sources said India won't be surprised if the attack was meant to sabotage the dialogue process. "It shows that Pakistani prime minister Nawaz Sharif has his task cut out as he prepares to renew engagement with India", said a senior official in the MEA.
PM Manmohan Singh is set to meet Sharif on the sidelines of UN general assembly in September.
The attack came against the backdrop of intelligence intercepts specifically warning of a plot to assassinate Indian envoy to Kabul Amar Sinha and the assessment about a rise in attacks on Indian diplomatic facilities in Afghanistan in the run up to the withdrawal of US drawdown of troops from the war-ravaged country next year.
Foreign Office spokesman Akbaruddin asserted that India won't be deterred by the attack in carrying out its assistance related projects in Afghanistan.
"The suicide attacks against the Indian Consulate General in Jalalabad, which has led to the injuries and deaths of several valiant Afghan Police personnel as well as deaths of several innocent Afghan civilians including children, must be condemned in the strongest possible terms," he said. "This was clearly an attack not just against India but an attack against the efforts to help the Afghan people overcome the tragic hardships they have endured due to several decades of war," he said.
