India begins use of Chabahar port in Iran despite international pressure

now pakistan can shut down the border with.afghanistan and be done with that dreaded country...for decades they have only given us trouble.

previously pakistan could not shut the borders due to humanitarian reasons.Most of Afghanistan food supply was via Pakistan...but now india is doing it through Iran...so closing the border wont hurt the gener public of Afghanistan...Plus now they got themselves an alternate tradecroute and trade partner...
Trade with Afghanistan never worked for pakistan and has hurt the economy by smuggling .....
Now is the chance Pakistan should take this golden.oppertunity and seal the borders.

Amazing logic!!!!....bcoz you can't stop smuggling so instead of finding a way out to do so you are advocating about closing the border??? May i know how are you planning to reach central Asia if there is no Pak-AF corridor??? Though blessing in disguise for us...

That is a wafer thin advantage which pales when the security situation on both the routes is taken into account.

The route through Chahbahar is far more secure than is the route through Gwadar.

don't forget those 30 miles are accounted to nothing compared to stability and more developed transportation systems , railways and highways in Iran also more than central Asia, Iran railway open another route to Caucasus and Iraq

Main purpose of developing Gwadar port was to provide China a convenient access to Gulf (for energy import) and Indian Ocean (for goods export).

Development in Western China has commenced and the area has started to industrialise.
The link roads are being created between Xinjiang and Gwadar: Widening of Karakoram Highway, Gwadar-Ratodero Motorway and upgradation of National highways are being carried out.

There are plans to build a rail link through the Korakoram range.

Once completed, Gwadar will provide the most convenient link for China to the Americas, Europe, Africa and Western Asia.

The game (terrorism, secessionist movements, sectarian violence) that is being played out in this area (Balochistan, KPK and Gilgit-Baltistan) is to block this major artery.

Energy security is China's major concern and Malacca Strait is the most vulnerable point with the presence of US Naval fleet in the area.

Gwadar provides the best alternative.

gwadar is in balochistan which is highly unstable . i see no comparison of gwadar which chabahar port, both can coexist if peace prevails .

Bro Distance Is Just One Of The Many Advantages That Gwadar Enjoys.I Have Listed Some Of The Distances.This List Is By No Means Exhaustive.
My Points List Just Some Of The Advantages Gwadar Has.If You Read My Post Carefully,I Have Admitted that Chahbahar Does Have The Advantages of Security,Stability and Infrastructure.In The Short Run Chahbahar Will Benefit But In The Long Run Gwadar Enjoys Many Advantages
