India becomes third biggest US arms purchaser

We are compromising the countries future buddy............

By copying or not....to secure the countries future......everything has to be considered.

AND WHO said copying leads to low quality??
If you are indicating towards China......then let me tell you......China is one of the world's leading arms exporter.
AND if their "copied" stuffs didn't work, then people wouldn't buy them.
Their space program, nuclear program etc are well ahead of India.
No one knew, they had the tech. to shoot down a satellites by a missile until they actually did it.
They have already sent their man in space and with their indigenously(copied?--does it matter?) built stuff.
They probably have almost 30 times more nuclear warheads than India.

All these things cannot be achieved with "copied", low tech stuff......buddy
Just compare Chinese weapons and Russian equivalent , u ll understand why:tup:
Because Chinese is largest economy and hugely populated and since it is under the control of one govt they could proceed actually . And US and Russia each have innumerable no. of nukes against China . They tested nuke far before than us and they conducted many tests . Dont underestimate us . Nobody knew we have ABM tech unless we did it :tup:Whats the big deal buddy? The so called people buy their weapons because they come cheap, cost effective . And also China is one of the worlds leading arms importer .

according to? PLA only have like less than 15% foreign equipment in its inventory whereas Inida is like 99%, you even cant make good quality 5.56mm Nato and 5.45mm Soviet calibers have to import from Isreal and Romania

Washington: Just years after US resumed weapons sales to New Delhi, India has jumped to become third biggest arms purchaser from America logging contracts worth over USD 4.5 billion last year alone.

Had the US firms bagged India's biggest ever deal for fighter jets, New Delhi would have been on the top spot of American arms sales worldwide, according to a Pentagon report.

Even though the US firms lost the bid for an estimated USD 10 billion contract for sale of 126 jets to Indian Air Force (IAF), India was listed as the third largest purchaser of US arms through the government to government channel Foreign Military Sales (FMS) by the Defence Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA), the Pentagon agency that overlooks such sales.

Topping the list for the fiscal year 2011 ending September 30, 2011 were Afghan Security Forces (USD 5.4 billion) followed by the Taipei Economic and Cultural Representative Office in the United States (USD 4.9 billion).

Australia with USD 3.9 billion occupies the fourth spot, followed by Saudi Arabia (USD 3.5 billion), Iraq (USD 2.0 billion), the UAE (USD 1.5 billion), Israel (USD 1.4 billion), Japan (USD 0.5 billion) and Sweden (USD 0.5 billion).

American arms sales to India include Naval Reconnaissance planes, giant transporters, sea-skimming missiles and other weapon systems.

US Foreign Military Sales passed the USD 30 billion mark for the fourth consecutive year, with the 2011 figure starting USD 34.8 billion.

Yes, you are.. Okay so here's the question..

WW3

who do you support Russia or America?

according to? 99% is easily wrong. I don't know about 15%, but most probabaly if PLA would count all the chinese junk in their inventory piled up from 1960s.

Whatever India is buys is to buy technology .... China would rush to buy, but is not offered. Hence, China tries to reverse engineer from stolen components at 3-4 times the actual cost.

For Chinese members, I always try to point your hypocrisy. Below are the cost of total arms imported each year in dollars
China is one of the top importers in world for last 40 years except last 3 yrs (even in 2006 it was top).

That's quite the attitude there, considering India's most elite forces surrendered to their "junk" weapons during the sino-indian war of 1962.

Just curious, but what kind of technology does India have that China does not?

Also, is India more advanced than China in terms of military tech?

Are you also against war since it involves killing? The last thing you would be worried about is whether your enemies weapons are reserved engineered or not during a war situation.

People's Republic of China 2015 3366 2819 2207 3080 3511 3831 1474 1481 595 559

So to summarize this,

India from 2000 imported 0.911 billion --> 3.337 billion in 2010
China from 2000 imported 2.015 billion --> 559 million in 2010

India is becoming more and more dependent on foreign arms while China is becoming less and less dependent of foreign arms. Reason simply being that China is now capable of producing her own domestic weapons while this is something India is incapable of doing.

Btw, buying foreign weapons does not make you powerful- being able to create them does. If India was able to create her own weapons then that would be something to boast about. Boasting about being the worlds largest weapons importer is a slap in your own face.

.
@ all chinese member,

you do not feel any shame if you copy other technology shamelessly especially from whom you fought a war? Do you heard anything about the word " national pride"? And never felt any shy when the trust which you broken everytime when USSR sold any weapons to you? No one want to sell weapons to you but USSR given you everything but what you given beck to him (J-6, J-7,, J-5, J-11)?

What are the weapons used in 1962? Will they count now a days?:P

Just curious, but what kind of technology does India have that China does not?

Wrong conclusion. It is a phase. India just like China will move away from foreign arms but not by copying but by joint development programs.
