Updated: 20 Jul 2011

Xiamen King Long-made buses were waiting to be shipped in Xiamen Port.

Xiamen King Long United Automotive Industry Co Ltd, a major Chinese bus maker based in Xiamen, sees a 100% increase in exports in the first half of 2011, reports Xiamen Daily.

In the period from January to June, 2011, over 3300 Xiamen King Long-made buses worth RMB 1 billion (US$ 155 million) were exported, while 12,430 China-made buses were sold to other countries, according to Customs figure.

"We have secured orders from Europe, Southeast Asia, Africa, Middle East and South America,” said Samuel Zhu, vice president of King Long.

Mr. Zhu expected the company's overseas sales in 2011 could reach RMB 1.8 billion, which will be a new record for a single Chinese bus maker.

"We wish to sell our buses in the North America market. Our USEPA-approved sample vehicles will be promoted in 2012, and we are looking forward to wholesaling in the market in 2013," said Zhu, who is in charge of the company's overseas business.

Ultra-capacitors power first bus in Europe

Europe’s latest electric bus is the Chariot e-bus which takes to the road in Sofia, Bulgaria this week.

The vehicle, which can travel up to 20km on a single charge, is the result of a collaboration between Israeli-Bulgarian bus company Chariot Motors, China’s second largest bus manufacturer Higer and China-based ultra-capacitor producer Aowei.

The ultra-capacitor technology is used to capture energy from braking for powering the bus. The technology has been tested in Shanghai for more than seven years, clocking up more than 8 million kilometres, but has never before been launched in Europe.

The bus has an average daily energy consumption has already been test-proven in Sofia to be about 0.95kWh/km.

According to Zwika Zimmerman, chairman of the board of Chariot Motors, electric buses are the future of urban public transport.

“This is the first electric bus on European streets that does not require traditional battery charging and can cover its whole route on a single charge requiring just a few minutes. However I’m confident that it won’t be the last,” said Zimmerman.

“Cities across Europe face increased demand for public transportation at the same time as facing increased concerns over air pollution. Electric buses can both meet that demand and address those concerns,” added Zimmerman.

Last year, the European Environment Agency revealed that Bulgaria has the highest concentration in its air of sulphur dioxide and carbon monoxide in Europe.

You are right, you should take this matter with the concerned Volvo officials

It was an Indian media outlet that reported the story. Bad Journalism?

Or coud it be that in the mind of Volvo officials China is no longer a non-developed country and hence shouldn't be considered in the same brackets as India?

Anyways, there is nothing particularly exciting about selling a few buses to Europe, especially when the buses in question are Volvo buses.

Go home Today and ask your parents, if that's true or not ?

No, I personally don't think so. And to ease your mind, my parents , grand parents, uncles, aunts, and other family members also don't think so. But, then, we have 23 million minds, so there are bound to be some self-hating people( Dpp members), just like in India.

As far as I know, China exports many buses/construction vehicles/lathes/diesel engines/airliner parts/electronic products to Europe, you can check it in OECD database, I dont konw why indians here are so exited about such a minor event, which prove only the insignificance, weakness, desperation, and ignorance of some indian minds. Next time when you try to compare to China with such a inferior matter, do some serious research or you just make yourself like a fool.
