strange, even after losing against us in their backyard still they r promoted in to the No 1 spot by ICC by beating england in an unfinished series with 2-1 margin as of now.Ranchi, Jan 20: It was a historic day on Saturday at the brand new JSCA International Stadium. For the first time, India reached the top of ICC ODI rankings. India's seven-wicket victory over England on January 19 gave them the number one position for the first time in the ICC ODI Championship table.
It was a double delight for MS Dhoni in his hometown - a comprehensive win and number one ranking.*India, who started the five-match ODI series against England, in number three position, have now claimed the top spot once they had held.
Previously, India had reached second spot in ODI rankings. They had been on top of the summit in Tests but not in ODIs. India's best position of number two was achieved in July, 2009. However, they can climbed to number two again in January 2012.
England, who had started the series in top position have slipped to third while South Africa are second in the latest rankings updated by International Cricket Council (ICC) on Saturday night after the completion of South Africa-New Zealand ODI. South Africa lost to New Zealand by one wicket.
However, India, in order to hold onto the top spot, have to win the next ODI in Mohali on January 23. If they lose that game, then England will be back on top of the table.
India are currently with 119 rating points followed by South Africa with 118. England have 116.
If India lose in Mohali to England, they will drop two rating points and will be with 117 while England will gain two rating points and move to 120. But Dhoni-led side can get back to the top again in Dharamsala on January 27 by winning the fifth and final ODI, with which they will take the series as well.

India become No 1 ODI side in ICC rankings
Doesnt make sense why pakistanis having a go at india's no.1 ranking? India doing well in ODI's.... Its the test match that india doing worse.... In ODI's india recently won many matchs.... Even when india been not won many finals but their win percentage far better.... While pakistan beaten india 2-1.... So what? Thats just 1 more win over india.... While england white wash pakistan 5-0 just before that.... While now india leading 2-1 against same england team that white wash pakistan.... Just because pakistan beaten india doesnt mean pak should be no.1 or ahead of india.... India doing better in ODI's and doing worse in Test match. Do not mix them up.... Not even a day people on PDF stop arguing....

well we have nothing against ranking or india at top position but ranking dont make you a better team..look at pakistan which was at no 6 on ranking table but defeated india which had better ranking..look at new zeland they were at no 8 on table but defeated No 1 team south africa in first two one day matches which actually changed the ranking table and brought india at top. Ranking not just depend on your team performances but also on performances of teams with higher ranking ..Its not that you won two one days and lost one againt engalnd and got no 1 position but it was because of south africa who lost matches againt new zealand and also Australia who lost matches against sri lanka which changed the position of many teams on table
