India bans Chinese telecoms imports

...
$100 "computer"? $1,000 "car" ? ... now we are talking ! :D

Correction Bharat unveiled the $100 computer as a $10 "computer".... which was later revealed to be a $10 "wireless data hub".... which was later revealed to be a $10 "usb thumbdrive".... which was later revealed that it was only a fake photo and they didn't even have the USB Thumbdrive.

The $1000 'car' was later revealed to be that price for only a "select few" people.... which was later revealed to cost $2500.... and then later revealed that they stumbled on numerous mfg difficulties.... which was later revealed that they used Ford's motor as theirs malfunctioned and was inefficient and prone to safety hazars.... which later revealed that even with foreign components because of its design flaw of having engine in rear and lack of effective cooling system the car would undergo spontaneous combustion.

Many revealing details are revealed slowly over time.... :bunny:

The car was always supposed to be 1 lac rupee car which is roughly $2500. A car for $1000 was never quoted.

The computer was not claimed to be made by India. It was being developed by MIT professor Nicholas Negroponte. India was a customer, but later backed out of the project.

Get your facts rights. You're just trolling with all the false knowledge.

Although Nano car has nothing to do with Telecom industry but since you are so keen to know about Nano so I am replying...Nano car has already passed EURO CRASH TEST

Nano passes Euro level crash tests

I can understand....Some people cant digest the simple fact that India has made the cheapest car which has passed Euro Crash Test while some of the low quality but highly priced cars from other countries are still in line...:flame:

Cheers for Nano:victory:

Initially thought of not replying to OT,but after looking at the persons misconceptions,I felt the need to educate you Mr.

Firstly, there was no project calling for a $10 computer. It its beyond my knowledge why dont you provide some solid confirmatory links instead of going on rant spree?
you know what people call a person who often rant? Ans
Again, there was no $1000 car being promised to any customers in India or abroad. It was initially conceived as a Rs 100,000 car(exchange rate ~$ 2500)

But still ,the Rs one lakh car proved its safetyness in many crash tests.

Unlike those coastlier than $2500 Nano from Chinese mart

If you are a sane person, can you open your eyes to see which car offers more probablity of survival in a crash? certainly not the chinese, but Nano did it. and now before you jump on ranting again, provide some credible links to attest your loose mouth.else you are proving it again that you are a chinese.

And coming to the topic,Telecommunication is life of national soverginity.and a compromise in such system will only show the war to the loosers wardrobe.

India being a soverign nation has the right to choose its vendors with high track record.
what is the point of spending billions of dollars and putting the whole network in the hands of an enemy?
It would be stupidity at its high.Or else if you are a traitor willing to sell your nation.

And if people are talking about trade practices, Chinese members definitely dont have any right to talk about such.Look at yourself and how china deals with others, hence the high trade imbalances with other countries.China never open its own markets to outsiders, while it barks about excise duty on dumpings.
AFAIK,Indian and US and many european ministers often confront china because of its improper trade practice. But whats the point of blowing horn infront of a dumb person?

http://www.defence.pk/forums/world-affairs/56341-india-bans-chinese-telecom-equipment.html

There is already another thread discussing the same. MODS please merge.

That thread seems to describe exactly why the equipment got banned.

Its nothing to do with China. Its that the equipment does not comply with the international laws and comes without IMEI or fake IMEI numbers that makes them impossible to track and their misuse is growing.

" .. the equipment does not comply with the international laws and comes without IMEI ... "

Those excuses are almost incomprehensible to any reasonable mind. Chinese tel com equipment makers are Huawei, ZTE mostly, which are world #1 and #5 seller repectively.

In case of Huawei (which I understand has operations in India and has many problems set by Indian govt in relation to sales , personnel visa, etc.), I knew a Swede working for Huawei when I was in Germany. He said that Huawei is recognised THE world leader (both quantity and quality) in world mobile and telecom switches, with its key products beating Alcatel-lucent, Nokia-Siemens and Cisco in their home markets especially on quality. And he told me that these key Huawei equipments, in almost all cases, were the most expensive ones in the market.

Here in the UK as well, the best quality products that make up UK's national telecommunication (British telecom) backbone are from Huawei.

It is inconceivable that Huawei's international products do not comply with int'l laws/standards, since Huawei telecom equipments (and ZTE to some extent) set many key international standards themselves.

Anyway, no matter what excuses are, it's India's loss, not China's.

a car head deforming in a crash offers a better chance of survival. look at any japanese car's crash test video, it will show you.

impulse = change in momentum = change in force/change in time

when the car does not deform at all in the case of the nano, the term change in time dt is very small and the resultant impulse is higher. the higher the impulse the greater the force felt by the driver.

when the car does deform, the term dt is larger, and the impulse is smaller. this can be imagined as the deforming material absorbing some of the energy of the crash.

Huawei ready to resolve telecom issues with India

NEW DELHI: China’s Huawei is scrambling to persuade a wary India that its telecom gear does not pose a security threat after the government blocked dozens of deals between Indian mobile phone operators and Chinese equipment firms.

Senior company executives are scheduled to meet top officials in the Indian security establishment later this week to try and resolve an issue that has the potential to stoke trade tensions between two of Asia’s fastest-growing economies, a person with knowledge of the development said.

Huawei’s executive vice-president, Xu Zhijun, and its president for Asia-Pacific, Wang Shengli, will be in India to meet officials from the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), home ministry, communications ministry and the National Security Council starting May 7.

As part of efforts to convince India that it poses no security threat, Huawei has told the government that it is restructuring operations so that the chairman and board of directors of the local arm will all be Indian residents.
In a letter to TKA Nair, the prime minister’s principal secretary, Huawei wrote that it is “not just a Chinese company” as 85% of its staff and nearly all of its R&D workforce are Indians.

“Huawei prides itself as a transparent company that operates within the rules and laws of the lands it operates in. The Indian operations have been cooperating with the Indian government agencies and have given all the information that has been sought. Huawei is willing to give additional information that the Indian government agencies require. This is our commitment,” Huawei Telecommunications India CEO Yang Kaijun wrote on May 3.

China is India’s largest trading partner, with a trade surplus of over $20 billion. India has been arguing for greater market access and has many times responded with higher duties to prevent the dumping of cheap goods from the neighbouring country.

Since 2005, the home ministry has warned many times that foreign telecom equipment vendors, especially Chinese, may install spyware and malware that could monitor voice and data traffic and bring down networks. Last year, the government banned all mobile phones without a proper unique identification number and limits have been set on the number of overseas workers that can be employed on infrastructure projects.

While the Centre maintains there is no blanket ban on the import of telecom equipment and networks from China, Huawei and ZTE, another Chinese telecom equipment company, say the communications ministry has not approved contracts since February 18.

The cancellation of these contracts would mean at least $150 million in losses for Huawei in the immediate term, a company source said. The executive pointed out that all equipment deals with Western vendors have been approved during this period.

India is the world’s largest market for telecom gearmakers and offers a $150-billion opportunity over the next five years as new operators set up their networks and 3G services are rolled out. India is also the second-largest market outside China for both ZTE and Huawei. ZTE’s sales in India increased by 50% in 2009-10 and contributed over 10% to its $8.8-billion revenues during this period. From just $170 million in annual revenues from India in 2005, Huawei ended 2009 with sales of over $2.3 billion.

All new mobile operators in India rolling out telecom networks have chosen to partner with Chinese companies. While none of them is willing to comment openly, they say ultra-cheap equipment from Chinese firms such as Huawei and ZTE, which match Western vendors in quality, is one of the main reason that allows Indian operators to offer the lowest tariffs in the world.

Failing to give clearances to China-made telecom equipment is the latest attempt by the government to limit their presence. Last year, facing intense opposition from telecom companies, the government tried to limit Chinese telecom vendors to just eight states. The move was vehemently opposed by mobile firms and as a compromise formula it was decided that equipment suppliers must register with the telecom department, agree to monitoring by security agencies, and obtain clearance to operate from the home ministry. In August 2009, the government banned BSNL from sourcing mobile networks and other related hardware from Chinese vendors in any region that shared international boundaries.

The government recently mandated all telecom gearmakers to employ only Indian engineers to maintain and manage networks of operators here within a two-year timeframe. The directive also required foreign gearmakers to make core telecom equipment locally or transfer technology to Indian manufacturers within three years.

“When Chinese vendors agreed to meet these directives, the government resorted to rejecting all applications submitted by the operators to buy equipment from such vendors," explained an executive close to Huawei. A senior executive at a Chinese company blamed Western rivals for raising the security scare because they are unable to compete on price.

Let me increase your GK...

Euro Crash test considers crash from all sides and even hitting to a pedestrian....Fotunately NANO has passed all tests while many chinese car still in line:taz:

All simple laws of Physics are followed in every Euro Crash Test and then only a vehicle is certified to run on European Roads....

Nano has passed that Test:chilli:

Right, the Indian Gov is sensitive, and a protected economy has not future,Trade protectionism is pop in India~~~

This is long overdue. Without IMEI numbers, Chinese handsets were sure to get a ban. Security agencies cannot track mobiles without IMEI number and GoI had earlier issued warnings, which Chinese companies ignored. And btw, Chinese mobiles have a crap quality and everybody knows that. Why the hell flood Indian markets with 3rd rate quality Chinese mobiles and without IMEI numbers. Good decision by GoI.

No comment on the thread but,

I expected better from a knowledgeable person like you. IDK about Europe, but I know Great Wall Utes are sold in Australia.

Also, Impulse is the product of delta F and delta t. I=Ft

It is not delta F divided by delta t
