India-Bangladesh to start CEPA negotiations, Indian exports to touch $32 billion

Clowns shouting here again.

On the the one hand BBS publishes false data and on the other BD imports are booming - without a strong economy imports cannot be paid for.

So what if India exports double to 32 billion US dollars on the back of this FTA as BD is likely to quintiple its exports to India to 10 billion US dollars in return.

I am happy for BD to import 30 billion US dollars from India and export 10 billion US dollars in return.

This is going to be one of the key economic partnerships on the ENTIRE PLANET over the course of this century and it will uplift nearly 2 billion people out of 3rd world status within just 10-15 years.

.
Go check the PTI report - which is more current than this commerce dept. garbage.

If you have issues with Bangladesh reserves and economy then tell your bhakts to not come here like illegal bhikharees looking for jobs.

He is just quoting idiots like you and @bluesky who have been doing Nilgiri type hit jobs on Bangladesh!

Your contradictions eventually catches up and hits your backside hard.

I, however, do not feel your pain!

These idiots remind everyone exactly how BNP would bankrupt BD.

Within a couple of years - BD exports to India will dwarf the export and trade to USA.

At that point, Uncle Sam loses even the tiny leverage it has now 😂😂🤣🤣

This is what frightens them.

Thai prostitutes do no want to lose their old white Uncles 😂🤣🤣

Pathetic imbeciles who are hiding bigotry against Hindus I suspect with "Indian hegemony" as the bogeyman.

They also have an inferiority complex as they do not think that brown people can be as good as white people - more a reflection on their own limited abilities that they project onto their race as a whole.

Anyway they matter little as the average BD'shi is too busy using the Padma Bridge and the new roadwork that Hasina built in the CHT to go on holiday rather than complain about BAL like them!

No!

They are frustrated that local hoteliers and factories are hiring Indians over them.

It’s classic Brexit syndrome.

I hate Hinduvta with a passion but 100% recognise their superior intellect and knowledge.

Who is to blame for that?

It’s their own laziness and belief in Wahabhi nonsense! Some of them, no doubt, received Madrasa education. Hence the poor grasp of English!

. .
How much of that $32 billion dollars is raw cotton, rice and grains, medicines, iron and steel?
Food items import number most likely will remain same as now. I expect it to drop because our farmers are getting educated and mechanizing but Im not sure. We have to import rice if we face large flooding, we don't have the climate to grow other grains economically. We are dependent on india for sugar, lentil and spices. Indian cotton is cheaper for us because of our proximity. India isn't our sole supplier. Best and unfortunately expensive cotton comes from central asia.

Never saw any indian medicine in Bangladesh ever. We import APIs directly from china. Iron and steel? We export a little...

BTW, imports from india will never reach to 32 billions. Except food items and cotton what india can give us cheaper than China?

It is a multitude of factors but there is no doubt that a lot of them are bigoted against Hindus due to their Madrassa education no doubt!

They cry about Indians taking jobs in BD but why do they not improve their own education and skills to compete better like you say?

Their level of English is utterly terrible and so that is a big disadvantage when working in the import-export business.

There is no good reason for BD’shi textile businesses to hire Indians over them but due to skills.

Some people are politicising a matter that is just common sense.

India is the immediate transit route, it's the most convenient route. The richer BD gets, the more we will buy through India - that's just logical.

That's why so many deshis shop in Kolkata - they're not all traitors.

Its like the UK complaining about imports from EU. That kind of toxic, populism leads countries to shoot themselves in the foot like brexit.

We have our own Brexit bigots who also follow BNP.

Bangladeshi BNP is as bigoted and self sabotaging as the British BNP!

Good luck...

European farmers enjoy high level of subsidy and protection.

EU also enforces higher standards.

There is no way India will export significantly more.

Bangladesh is their only hope.

Don't get overexcited - try to understand the underlying issues at play here.

India heavily subsidizes it's rice farmers - keeping prices artificially low. BD paying even at 11% over, benefits from Indian taxpayers subsidies. So it's actually a fair deal overall.

“This move by India is not surprising at all,” said Bobby Hanks, rice miller and chair of the USA Rice International Trade Policy Committee. “When you over-subsidize your farmers to the degree India has and you try to take risk out of the production process, you lose the natural resiliency that market-based economies have and it’s difficult for your supply and demand to balance out when there’s weather and market disruptions. If India were a market-based economy, their prices would have never stayed so artificially low for so long and they wouldn’t panic over a small reduction in acreage following a record year for production.”

I used to also worry about Indian hegemony and domination of BD but now I am very relaxed as due to the strength of BD economy, India has been forced to treat BD as an equal.

India benefits by having a strong, independent and prosperous BD and so trying to interfere in BD is now shooting themselves in the foot.

We also need to remember that India gives BD access to GWs of cheap and clean hydroelectric power from Nepal and Bhutan. Without this source then it may be impossible to power BD growth at the rates we have seen over the last decade.

Hasina is a true geopolitical master and the way she has handled Covid-19, the current economic headwinds and the relationship with India makes me say she is the best leader in the world right now.

BD would be crazy to get rid of her at a state where the economic foundations of the county are still not solid.

How is India able to export so much grain when it’s per capita grain production is lower than BD?

Can someone please clarify.

.
we don't have the climate to grow other grains economically.
Actually our climate is very suitable to grow maize. Despite lacking modern farming practices, our maize yield is as high as Europe and US and more than twice of India. Our farmers are already producing more than 4 million ton maize a year. Mostly at Rangpur, Rajshahi and Khulna division. It will hit 10 million ton within a few years. If we want to become self-sufficient in meat production then there is no alternative but to increase maize production and future is bright for maize in BD.
