According to sources, ahead of the visit, the Chief of the Indian Navy Admiral Karamveer Singh will be going on a goodwill visit to Dhaka, which is expected to give a boost to the defence cooperation and maritime security between the two countries.

Also, talks between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina would seek greater cooperation in the blue economy, the peaceful use of nuclear energy, aerospace research and cybersecurity.
Keeping in view of greater involvement of China, India is expected to push for deeper defence cooperation with Bangladesh which was agreed by two countries in 2017, when the leader of that country comes visiting next month.

Also, talks between Prime Minister Narendra Modiand Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina would seek greater cooperation in the blue economy, the peaceful use of nuclear energy, aerospace research and cybersecurity.

Sharing his views with Financial Express Online, Gautam Lahiri, a keen observer of Bangladesh says, “It is time to create an atmosphere of trust and India should try to avoid controversial issues.”

Besides furthering of defence cooperation, “India should promise positively on all outstanding issues including the Teesta water-sharing agreement,” Lahiri opines.

According to him, since Bangladesh is poised for higher growth trajectory India should avail this opportunity for deeper economic cooperation and create a win-win situation for both countries. Also, the proposed bilateral economic cooperation agreement will encourage Indian industry to invest in Bangladesh in proposed India specific Special Economic Zone (SEZ).

When the Bangladesh leader who is scheduled to visit India early next month, topping the agenda of talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be the identification of new areas of cooperation and inking of a bilateral economic cooperation agreement.

Sources have confirmed that the draft of the proposed agreement is in the final stages of negotiation.

Though officially the dates have not been announced, it is likely that Prime Minister Hasina is coming to attend the two days India Economic Summit of the World Economic Forum from Oct 3-4. This year’s theme of the India Economic Forum is “Innovating for India: Strengthening South Asia, impacting the World.”

Also on the agenda will be the long-pending issue of Teesta water sharing. In August, after a gap of almost 7 years, the joint river commission of both countries had met in Dhaka and had decided to finalise the agreement before Hasina arrives in India.

Besides India giving a Line of credit of $ 500 million for purchasing defence equipment from India, the two countries already have defence cooperation MOU.

When external affairs minister S Jaishankar was visiting the neighbouring country, he had urged Dhaka to operationalise the defence MOU soon.

The two countries already have agreements inked in various sectors including security, trade, power, energy, connectivity, environment, and infrastructure development.

Good luck in selling Tejas to BAF. Even IAF had doubts about inducting that loser platform...

Once BAF goes Indian, the Chinese won't be selling us jack sh*t again....

A defence cooperation with India? For what? BD's Hasina Bibi probably thinks that a goat should get the cooperation from a lion for its own defence. By the way, against which country BD needs such cooperation? One plausible reason may be, India wants its eastern border free of tension at times of its conflict in its western border near Kashmir.

Note that India has stationed 600,000 troops in Kashmir. Now, it wants BD to cooperate with her by not moving troops (this is very natural in times of wars) to the border when there is a conflict in the west.

And, this is at a time when India's BJP is bullying the Muslims in Assam and Kashmir. Bloody hypocrite India!!

To our bangladeshi friends, what does life after hasina look like to you? Obviously there is animosity between hasina and pakistan but could pak/bangla relations improve post-hasina?

I would like to see pak bangla be separate but brotherly. Let the new generations heal from 1971 and celebrate our 1947.

Yes brother - Pak/Bangla relations will definitely improve post-Hasina if it does happen meaning a new party comes to power. However I hope that party will need to have a much greater proportion of business folks and technocrats, not uneducated (or even educated, at the top level) looters like we have in both countries right now.

However AL will try to hold onto power and they have neutralized almost all opposition in Bangladesh, so it will be hard to present a credible grass roots opposition to AL at this time.

Primary reasoning and angle of AL's legitimacy to be in power (they think) is harping about 1971 ad-infinitum (primarily stemming from Hasina's personal anger and vendetta).

Like I have said many times before, from a national standpoint we have buried our dead on both sides and learned our lessons, so prolonged animosity to Pakistan only benefits the Indians. Hasina owes Indians something personally for getting her to power, from a national standpoint in Bangladesh, most people feel we don't.

Indians helped us in 1971 only after one reason, to neutralize the threat on the East and to make Bangladesh a captive market for their home market garbage (like Nepal). This has helped their economy immensely and they have even greater hopes for it in the future.

I think we have rewarded India enough for 1971 by consuming their 'goods' for fifty years. Our job in Bangladesh is not to help the Chaiwala administration gain any more trade leverage, so until the folks in India change their govt. to a balanced Bangladesh-friendly administration this will continue.

Trade in Bangladesh will be more and more China-centric going forward and I for one hope that a fair portion of that trade volume should go to Pakistan as well, as it develops beyond the present scenario.

I think, ties with Pakistan will solely depend on how Pakistan tackle terrorism internally. First step towards a good relation start with relaxed visa regime which is not possible at this moment with very low level of trust about Pakistanis.
Everything else can be changed with short notice and drastically.

Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala willing, IoK will also be free from the clutches of India by then.

Then you'd be one of the very few to feel that way from what I have seen on this forum. Most of the Pakistani posters seem to consider us traitors or outright declare us as enemies of Islam while sugercoating their faults. They're blinded by their hate & can't seem to see the truth.
Except select few like you.I thank you for it.May Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'la bless you, brother.

On topic of this thread:
A defence cooperation with India will be the worst strategic blunder committed by the government till date. And a potential disaster for our military capability.

What aerospace research? They haven't even managed to make a decent indigenous 4th gen fighter in several decades & instead has slapped different subsystems from multiple countries together into an airframe & called it a jet.Even that is horribly expensive. If we need aerospace research partners, we should team up with countries like China, Turkey, Indonesia etc.

Economic cooperation? Their own economy is in shambles right now compared to before. How'd they help us with our economy?

It makes me very sad to hear that. Pdf is full of educated pakistanis. Sometimes they can be hyper patriotic which makes them defend things that are wrong. Patriotism is not defending whats wrong but condemning it. Some of these kids dont understand that.

PM’s Delhi visit to further strengthen tries, he says

Dhaka, Sept 16 (UNB) - Bangladesh High Commissioner to India Syed Muazzem Ali on Monday said the bilateral relations between Bangladesh and India reached the best-ever one with the current focus being on key areas – trade, investment, connectivity and energy.

He credited the dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Prime Minister Narendra Modi for taking the relations between the two countries to a new height.

Muazzem Ali was delivering a key note address on “India-Bangladesh relations” at Sikkim University in Gangtok to the students, faculties and officials of the prestigious institution.

Highlighting Bangladesh’s outstanding socioeconomic success under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, he said Bangladesh today is one of the fastest growing economies of the world with a record 7.86 percent GDP growth last year, and 8.13 percent so far in this fiscal year.

He said India too is fast emerging as a global economic power with strong growth coupled with scientific and technological achievements.

The envoy stressed all-round economic cooperation between the two countries, saying that the successes of both the neighbours offer each other opportunities to further deepen their economic relations.

“It has gone beyond the strategic partnership level and now encompasses all aspects of our bilateral cooperation. We’re confident that the reelections of both the Prime Ministers with landslide victories in their national elections will enable us to further consolidate and expand the ever-increasing bilateral ties, based on shared vision and mutuality of interest,” said the High Commissioner.

He mentioned that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is scheduled to visit New Delhi in the first week of next month from October 3-7. “We hope the visit would further strengthen our cooperation.”
