Food Minister Sadhan Chandra Majumder on Saturday said the government will not take the responsibility if anyone is shot to death along the border while bringing cattle from India.

He made the remarks while talking to reporters after attending the founding anniversary programme of Damkurahat High School in Poba upazila of Rajshahi.

“It’ll be pointless to blame others unless our character is good,” he said when asked about the shooting down of three Bangladeshi nationals by members of Indian Border Security Force (BSF) in his constituency Porsha of Naogaon.

On January 23, the three Bangladeshis –- Sanjit Kumar, Mofizul Islam and Kamal Hossain -- were killed by BSF members along Doarpalla border in Porsha upazila of Naogaon.

BSF men also took away the bodies of two of the victims.

The minister said, “We won’t allow anyone to bring cattle from India. Our upazila, district law-and-order committees and BGB adopted a resolution in this regard. Bangladesh government won’t take the responsibility if anyone is shot to death while bringing cattle cutting the barbed-wire fence.”

He also said efforts are on to bring back the bodies of the two Bangladeshi nationals.

Border killing has been a contentious bilateral issue between the two neighbours who share a porous 4,100-km border.

Delhi had promised to bring down border killings to zero over the years but the BSF continues to shoot dead Bangladeshis along the border.

However, a minister of a country is not supposed to speak so loudly on some controversial matters like border killing.

The statement by Sadhan Chandra Majumder is childish for a politician. "ঠিক করছে, ভালো করছে" type of expression shows his immaturity as a politician. Sadhan is a Food Minister, he is not supposed to comment on the border killing by the BSF.

It is out of the scope of his ministry. He should talk and work more on increasing the production of foods including onion.

No, we do not get duty free access to our goods to India. Think of jute goods, India has levied heavy taxes on them.

But, the thread is all about your getting free access to our land, port, river, sea, and road. Pay us taxes. Bd should get similar access to Pakistan through India.

You do get duty free access to Indian market, something even ASEAN do not enjoy. India has put anti dumping duties on certain goods to protect our local market, just like any countries. Deal with it, we are not here to buy everything you sell.

So, please tell us why BD export to India is no more than $1 billion and Indian export is $9 billion? Indians are double-faced that is why they say no duty on goods but they stop our goods at the border saying so many excuses.

Because you don't export much that's in demand in here. We need minerals, machinery, crude oil, precious metals and diamonds among other things. And what you have is Garments. Export things that are in demand here.

Crossing border is not only crime but crossing while knowing a bullet waiting for them is just stupid and stubborn. India impose curfew after sunset and they fire at even a rabbit. We should implement the same in our side of the border. We should not ask a foreign country what they should do inside their own territory and how they should maintain their own security.
Just dont cross the border..
