India asks Russia to upgrade two submarines

India has asked Russia to upgrade two its submarines, director-general of the Rubin Central Maritime Design Bureau Igor Vilnit said on Friday.
“The Indian governments filed a request to the Russian Federal Service for Military-Technical Cooperation to extend the life of two Russian Kilo Class submarines (Type 877EKM),” he said.

Specialists of the Zvyozdochka ship repair centre and the Rubin design bureau are expected to leave for India to inspect the first submarine.

“We’re optimistic about military-technical cooperation with the new Indian government,” Vilnit said.

Russia and India develop military-technical cooperation since the mid 1960’s. In the mid 1990’s Russia and India signed an interstate agreement on military-technical cooperation. The ten submarines were supplied to India’s Navy from 1986 to 2000.

It is because all Your military stuff is India specific where as ours in not Pakistan specific.

well yeah the these subs are not made indigeneously nor are your subs, most of the times the best man to do the upgrade are the builders(country wise) themselves; this is cooperation in military level we are not copy pasting anything now are we ?

We have the technology but no tools to develop it, because it requires lots of funding and government is not keen in doing that. Plus such up-gradation will help Indo-Russian relations to go further.

Main reason being there is no space and technical know how to do the upgrades. Firstly, most of the shipyards are already full with previous orders, we still haven't gotten our six new subs, which are delayed to god knows when, and there is also the problem that the shipyards, private ones don't have any knowledge in building and upgrading subs, they have knowledge base when it comes to building destroyers and frigates, but since Subs. were never built in India there is no technical know how. Hopefully in with the current expansion plans that are going on there would be some knowledge gained from the Arihant submarine program and the scorpene sub programs.

Don't ask the Russians, just write them a check and they will expedite. Time to get serious. Russia is not sitting anymore they are getting busy with their own issues. Asking them and fishing for bargain ain't going to get them to do it. Russians are in need for hard cash. Given the scrutiny they are facing from the Zionist's

I assure you as soon as collateral is paid they would start the work as soon as they can get their hands on our submarines. It's time to stop discussing and get the check book out.

because so far we have 2 shipyards capable of making or upgrading submarine's and out of them one is busy making 4 nuclear submarine while 2nd one is busy with 6 scorpenes.
