NEW DELHI : In a major boost to their bilateral ties, India and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) Wednesday signed two agreements, including one on combating terrorism in all forms and organised crimes.

Home Minister P. Chidambaram and and his UAE counterpart Lt. Gen. Sheikh Saif Bin Zayed Al Nahyan signed the agreements, the second one being on transfer of sentenced persons.

The two leaders also held discussions on "issues pertaining to bilateral security cooperation between two countries", a home ministry spokesperson said.

The spokesperson said the agreement on security cooperation seeks to strengthen and develop the existing bilateral framework and mechanism to enhance ties in areas such as "combating terrorism in all forms".

The pact also seeks to address activities of organised criminal groups, drug trafficking, illicit trafficking in weapons, ammunition, explosives and initiatives on training of police personnel.

The agreement on transfer of sentenced persons provides the framework to facilitate their social rehabilitation in their respective countries by giving citizens, who have been convicted and sentenced, the opportunity to serve the sentence in their own society.

The two sides reiterated their commitment for enhanced cooperation in the investigation of mutually relevant criminal cases and sharing of relevant information on them.

this is amazing . coming after the tax treaty we just signed with 42 countries . its great.

This is going to be something related to anti-piracy and terrorism at-sea level. Don't see us intervening in any military conflict on their side or any side for that matter. We're neutral right?

UAE is a very important partner for India in the middle east, its a good development.

I'm impressed that no one in India is angry over this.
seeing as UAE is a ******, dirty, Muslim country.

its not only that but prisoner exchange as well. in case an Indian is jailed in the UAE he then has an option to spend his time in the jail there or in an Indian jail . and vice versa.

Actually we dont care if you are a Muslim country but we do care when people like you are in a country, spreading hate and propaganda.

India itself has a huge muslim population and noone can accuse of being preferential to a country based on religion. This is international diplomacy, countries that play it based on religion generally lose. History is out there for you to read and understand.

I think every Indian knows that Muslims are not the culprits, infact they are the biggest victims. What you just tried to do in your post in try to portray us as country which hates muslims which is not the case. So stop trolling about things you dont understand and get out of hate spreading mode.

UAE can begin by extraditing the underworld dons in their country to India.

They have already done so, in case you did'nt know. One of them was one of the Memon brothers.

Why so? They do so much of stuff that is against what is deemed as pure religion in terms of your heros like Taliban etc that I doubt they're considered Islamic by anyone except for them being sheikhdoms.
