India an exporting country now: scientist - The Hindu

In 1998, other countries refused to export core winding machines to India. “After a huge struggle we have developed multi-axis core winding machine and now we are exporting the same to about 65 countries,” said Dr. K. Jayaraman, Director, Defence Research and Development Laboratories (DRDL).
Addressing the students of GITAM University at Pramana-2K15 here on Friday, he said “we have indigenously developed ground radar system which can assess the target and its character. About 60 countries are looking at us for this.”
Referring to ‘Make in India’ initiative, he said it was possible only with more focus on manufacturing industry. He said scientists at defence organisations were also able to develop a technology to ensure that rockets withstood scorching temperature of more than 2,000 degrees Celsius while re-entering the earth’s atmosphere even as the temperature inside was maintained at 50 degrees Celsius to keep the sensors safe.
Explaining advantages of manufacturing sector, Dr. Jayaraman said that the time has come to focus on basic engineering, textiles and leather. He said time and speed were essential to meet the requirements.
K. Rajasekhar, Additional General Manager, BSNL, said that the GITAM Unviersity was able to use most of the service being provided under National Mission in Education through Information and Communication Technology (NMEICT) of Ministry of HRD.
The programme was presided over Pro-Vice Chancellor Dr. R. Shiva Kumar. Prof. N. Shiva Prasad, Director, GITAM School of Technology, Prof. S.S. Prasad Rao, Director, Hyderabad Business School, Srinivas Garimella and Sai Srinivas Vavilala, both founder directors of Vega Conveyors and Automotives, participated in the programme.
