India aircraft carrier: New Delhi launches first home-built carrier

Kek that's ironic coming from pakistan , also nothing about the article is misleading . If any of you read it clearly, it states the carrier is going to be combat ready in 2018 .

Elections are coming. The carrier will not be ready before 2020.

Nor will the electors ... so it may not matter, a sword strike in water.

They want to make it a lone wolf or what? Why a naval gun?

The naval gun from OTO-Melara is a tiny marvel, compact enough to fit small hulls.
The caliber is the perfect one to allow dual use ( vs ships & planes or vs ground ).
The company has a very decent mastery on modern guns across platforms even
ones meant for different environments as seen here http://www.finmeccanica.com/en/-/draco .
And they have alongside research on smart projectiles going strongly.
It's one of the best gun products on the market.

A NEWSocracy! But by that account, so is America!

Just sayin', good day all, Tay.

Of course it won't be a lone wolf- that isn't part of the IN's CBG doctrine. The SRGMs will take up minimal space and will be effective against low flying CMs as a measure of last resort, it is good to see the IN thinking outside of the box.

Nor will the electors ... so it may not matter, a sword strike in water.

Oh got it.. I confused myself OTO with a gun like we have on the DDGs.

My bad. I know those two guns from the pics of IAC 1

Facepalm, thats not Close-in Weapon System per se. Its secondary work is CIWS.
Not when you take a SUper Rapid gun mount fitted with a DAVIDE/STRALES system, for DART guided ammunition, such as on the Italian Cavour carrier. Then, it is the primary role.

AK-630 is not on Vikrant? Lmao.

If it is 40 years old and of no use, why it installed on Kolkata & Vizag class? :what:
IN today's environment, longer range systems are preferable, in view of the proliferation of supersonic missiles. That doesn't mean shorter range systems are in-effective though.

Nor will the electors ... so it may not matter, a sword strike in water.

Well said, this system is ideal for a carrier (that has comparatively more space than smaller vessels like destroyers or frigates)
