India ahead of US on energy efficiency: Report
New Delhi, March 17 (IANS) India is making more progress than the US in increasing the countrys energy efficiency, a report said here Thursday.
Indias Clean Revolution was launched by international NGO The Climate Group (TCG).
The report suggested that the rate of increase of Indias private investment in clean energy will be 736 percent over the next 10 years, three times that of the US or China.
Further, low cost labour and highly skilled manufacturing base will make India a major hub for clean technologies.
Only a clean industrial revolution can guarantee long term prosperity for any nation and nowhere is this truer than in India. The low carbon economy offers huge economic opportunities, TCGs chief executive officer Mark Kenber said.
Our government has been bold in setting low carbon policies and we are now starting to reap the benefits. A low carbon development path will lead to increased energy security which is a prerequisite for sustainable growth, former minister of energy and environment Suresh Prabhu said.
Kirit Parikh, former member of the Planning Commission, was of the view that India could very easily leapfrog more developed economies by deploying newer and cleaner technologies.
We have the capabilities and the benefits to India in seizing this opportunity now will be transformational. Indias clean revolution will mean sustainable growth in our economy and energy consumption, he said.
