Russia Invites US, China, Pakistan For Crucial Meet On Afghanistan, India Left Out: Report
Russia's Extended Troika Meeting On Afghanistan: As the Taliban continues its offensive in Afghanistan, Russia has stepped up efforts to reach out to all key stakeholders in war-torn Afghanistan to stop the violence and push the Afghan peace process.

A crucial meeting is being convened by Russia on the fast-evolving situation in Afghanistan

New Delhi:
India has not been invited to a crucial meeting being convened by Russia on the fast-evolving situation in Afghanistan that is expected to see the participation of Pakistan, China and the US, people familiar with the development told news agency Press Trust of India today.

As the Taliban continues its offensive in Afghanistan, Russia has stepped up efforts to reach out to all key stakeholders in the war-torn country to stop the violence and push the Afghan peace process.

The "extended Troika" meeting is scheduled to be held in Qatar on August 11. Talks under the format had earlier taken place on March 18 and April 30.

Russia has also been holding the "Moscow Format" of talks to bring peace and creating conditions for the process of national reconciliation in Afghanistan.

Last month, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said in Tashkent that Russia will continue to work with India and other countries which can influence the situation in Afghanistan.

Following the comments, there was speculation that India may be included in the upcoming "extended Trioka" meeting.

"We will continue working with the Americans in the extended Troika format as well as with all other countries that can influence the situation in Afghanistan, including our partners from Central Asia, India, Iran and the US," he had told reporters.

"We have a Moscow format that includes all the main players," Mr Lavrov had said.

Though Russia has differences with the US on various dimensions of the Afghan conflict, both countries are now pushing for the intra-Afghan talks and to put an end to the widespread violence being perpetrated by the Taliban.

India is yet to comment on the upcoming extended Troika meeting.

Meanwhile, Afghan Ambassador to India Farid Mamundzay described as a positive development the decision to hold a meeting of the United Nations Security Council on August 6 to discuss the situation in Afghanistan.

India's ambassador to the UN TS Tirumurti announced that the UN Security Council will meet on Friday under Indian Presidency to discuss and take stock of the situation in Afghanistan.

"Convening an emergency UN Security Council Session on Afghanistan is a positive development. UN & international community must play a greater role to stop the unfolding tragedy in Afghanistan due to violence & atrocities by terrorists. Thank you India for the lead role as UNSC President," Mr Mamundzay tweeted.

The decision to hold the UNSC meeting came two days after Afghan Foreign Minister Mohammed Hanif Atmar spoke to his Indian counterpart S Jaishankar on the convening of an emergency session of the UN Security Council to stop Taliban''s violence.

India holds the presidency of the UNSC for the month of August.

The Taliban has been making rapid advances across Afghanistan by resorting to widespread violence since the United States began withdrawing its troops from the country on May 1. The US has already pulled back the majority of its forces and is looking to complete the drawdown by August 31.

India has been a major stakeholder in the peace and stability of Afghanistan. It has already invested nearly USD 3 billion in aid and reconstruction activities in the war-ravaged country.

India has been supporting a national peace and reconciliation process that is Afghan-led, Afghan-owned and Afghan-controlled.

It has also been calling upon all sections of the political spectrum in Afghanistan to work together to meet the aspirations of all people in the country, including those from the minority communities, for a prosperous and safe future.

I think the Afghan people support the Taliban, otherwise we can't explain why the Taliban can still grow after 20 years of suppression by Afghan government forces and the USA.

If the Taliban government is the choice of the Afghan people, we must accept it, whether we like it or not. This is the internal affairs of Afghanistan, and we have no right to interfere.

The Taliban used to be hostile to China because they supported the East Turkistan organization. However, we can solve these problems through negotiation rather than the use of force.

We should negotiate how to build Afghanistan and eradicate poverty and hunger in Afghanistan. When affluence comes to Afghanistan, Afghans will not like the continuation of violence and chaos.

The international players understand that India's involvement with anything regarding Afghan gov't would just lead to the death of the Afghan gov't and as I have said Pakistan is and was on verge of entering Afghanistan militarily to kill off the Afghan gov't in suspicion of Indian elements and alot of people didn't believe me but I was correct.. Pakistan will not accept an enemy Afghan gov't in kabul specifically one that befriends India. The US, China and Russia understood Pakistan putting it's regular armed forces on the border was merely not a game.. Pakistan was getting agitated and feeling some conspiracy against her.. This would have ended Ghani's weak goverment in a week... Making Pakistan paranoid would have been major disaster for Kabul and believe me if Pakistan takes unilateral decision It is pretty much game over nobody can do anything about it the chapter would close there and no international elements would come for Ghani and eat couple of nukes on his behalf as Afghanistan is not that important and everyone will cut their loses short and vanish into the bushes.

You would have witnessed a very angry Pakistan going in faster than Usain fukin Bolt.. The International players knew this is no bluff and understood this clearly and the gravity of the situation.. The only solution was to remove India's ugly face from Pakistan before it goes into berserk rage and this is exactly what they are doing and happened.. Indian media is now back to reporting about Ladak and stuff like that

I really don't understand this Indian fascination to be involved in Afghanistan situation. They don't even share a border with Afghanistan nor did they have any troops there, so on what grounds should India be involved.

They are more like wedding crashers and get upset when no one gives them any attention.
They have cultural connections going back centuries

We know those "connections" and we even know why they hate em for these "connections" but we don't talk about it...

sorry I had to lol. You sir, are utterly clueless about the Taliban and Afghanistan. First, there is no Taliban It is a collection of tribes with a spattering of foreign fighters all experiencing frequent bouts of shifting alliances and violent infighting. They make enough from the illicit trade in drugs, smuggling, mining and tariffs to arm themselves and pursue their way of life and violence is a big part of their way of life. Peace and progress is at the very bottom of their list of priorities.

It interesting that both the Americans and the Chinese make the same mistake of assuming the Taliban want progress and a shortcut to a 21 century modern civilized society. They don't ...

I recommend that you do some research before calling someone else "utterly clueless". Just to give you somewhere to start looking from, start with these things

1. How much drug was being exported out during the last Taliban rule and how much started after the saviour of the civilized word, uncle sam took over?
2. How many people did the Taliban kill during their tenure and how many did the champions of human rights, Mr USA killed?

Still don't get it - if this was/is the case, then why is Pakistan waiting since India will continue to be there as long as Afghan government exists??

Pakistan knows that the Afghan gov't won't last even in political settlement a new gov't will form with Taliban included.. The major trigger for Pakistan is if Afghan gov't was to sort of invite over Indian elements on the ground in Afghanistan this will be viewed as major security threat in Pakistan.. Because India could potentially create missiles launching places directed at Pakistan in the future from Afghan soil.. Pakistan can't allow this hence it will invade immediately in such scenario if there was even slight suspicion of India elements.. This will be the end of Ghani regime and this war but Pakistan will not intervene as long as it is IEA and Afghan gov't dugging it out alone..

But if there was even slight suspicion it will act and act quickly because it won't gamble it's future and have two nuclear installations pointed at you.. The army is already deployed at the border just with one order they could enter Kabul within 48 hours

I sincerely believe control of world opium poppy trade was the main reason of US invasion of Afghanistan. Like their British fathers Americans love to earn drug money in billions or even trillions.

LOL, all the attributes you attached to talibans actually is more fitting with US/Nato military, who funded the drug lords and other illegal activities in AFG, ever wondered why locals are fed up of US installed gov?

You are partially right. The US plan in Afghanistan was to get embedded in central Asia and then destabilise the whole region from within.
It takes the shape of drugs trade and isis against Iran and Russia. It takes the shape of etim/TIP/TTP against Pakistan and China.

irrelevant the Taliban of today aren't the same as the Taliban that Mullah Omar founded in 1996.

Your comment is based on assumptions, come back when you have solid facts to back you up.

Indians want to be stake in unfolding of this geopolitical unravelling. They want: a friendly Afghan at least, or ally afghan against Pakistan. Also, they think they are super power who can 'dictate' its neighbours.

Both are true, as those Taliban were very devout followers of Mullah Omer. However, taliban are still a loose faction where some people can be corrupt. But sure, they didn't strive on opium trade.
