Purnaiya Rao was a the clerk of Ranga Setty a businessman. His friend Annadana Setty worked as a supplier to Hyder Ali. Hyder ali worked as a Dalavayi to Krishnaraja Wodeyar II.

After Hyder ali betrayed the Wodeyar King who had hired Hyder to protect the kingdom, he usurped power. Only the thug called Hyder ali was an illiterate and he had to use somebody who he could trust to read and write on his behalf. That is where Purnaiya stepped in and won Hyder's confidence as his clerk.

This happened because Purnaiya was deadly enemies with the police and intelligence chief Shamaiya Iyengar and Hyder wanted balance of power.

Tipu was educated ONLY in persian and arabic and when he became king he changed the state language from kannada to Persian and changed the names of all cities and towns to islamic names.

I don't want to waste time educating you about tipu and his evils, especially how he raped women including the daughter of Purnaiya who later killed herself.

Here is a record fro 1790 written by a neutral Portuguese traveller and historian Fra Barthoelomeo in his book "A Voyage to the East Indies’. He was present in Tipu's kingdom and has written a FIRST HAND account of what he saw.

“First a corps of 30,000 barbarians who butchered everybody on the way … followed by the field gun unit under the French commander, M. Lally. Tipu was riding on an elephant behind which another army of 30 000 soldiers followed. Most of the men and women were hanged in Calicut, first mothers were hanged with their children tied to necks of mothers. That barbarian Tipu Sultan tied the naked Christian and Hindus to the legs of elephants and made the elephants to move around till the bodies of the helpless victims were torn to pieces. Temples and churches were ordered to be burned down, desecrated, and destroyed. … Those Christians who refused to be honoured with Islam were ordered to be killed by hanging immediately. These atrocities were told to me by the victims of Tipu Sultan who escaped from the clutches of his army and reached Varapphuza, which is the centre of Carmichael Christian Mission. I myself helped many victims to cross the Varapphuza river by boats.”
