Increasing tensions in the Aegean

Agree - If Turkey had joined the EU it would grant the Turks somewhat similar influence on Europe as during the Ottomans. The EU could never allow that to happen, as such, Turkey's persistency to join the EU was a waste of time.
That agenda made us fail in so many ways for the last 70 yrs!!

Greece is mourning. Was Hagia Sophia a part of an attempt to draw Greece into a conflict?
You do not know how happy this message makes me ... if there were a fair one on one with Greece, I would volunteer ... nothing excites my heart as much as getting back our old west coast .. today's greeks are Christian Turks - they were indoctrinated and count themselves among long-extinct people - without a closed bloodline

Turkey has understood that the status of the islands in the Aegean is unacceptable. The matter needs to be settled. However, Turkey needs Greece to make a stupid move which will legitimise Turkey's action. I think the Navtex, Hagia Sophia etc. are all part of making Greece do something stupid. (Which they will as the greek public is putting pressure on their leaders to respond)

Greeks are trying to get other nations involved. Will see Greeks are emotional and whiny cry babies I really think they are going to do one stupid move because their hate of Turks overwrite any kind of thinking and logic for them.

Personally, I do not think anything will happen on the Aegean front in the next 2 years. Turkey needs time to produce plenty of SOM, ATMACA, Gezgin and Hisar O to make the conflict easily winnable.

Also, Syria and Libya need to be settled to free up resources.

Ret. adm. Cem Gürdeniz said, even a bad peace/relation is better than a war. And if you listen to Babacan in this video you will realize that what's going on now, is an attempt by RTE do stay in power by trying to get nationalistic people to vote for him.

Babacan is answering many questions including national interests, and he is saying all of this will be resolved democratically and peacefully.

I expect RTE will rile up situation even more. Break the dreams of the Greek, and nothing will happen, and we'll have our Mavi Vatan (maritime border with Libya and etc.).

Around 47-48 min he says he is against using Islam as a tool to get votes. He keeps politics and Islam separated.

EDIT: Lol, I thought the above was written in turkish, so nearly wrote a resume in english....

It seems like there was an intervention by Merkel

Hence Merkel’s emergence as a broker between Ankara and Athens. The German leader would like to make progress regarding an updated refugee deal, additional financial support, the customs union’s revision and visa liberalization. For this purpose, she wants to de-escalate tensions and facilitate talks between Turkey and Greece. Merkel’s approach received a warm welcome in Ankara, where officials are likely to give her some time to figure things out. In that sense, a sudden de-escalation should not be surprising, which would lead to drilling activities being relocated to undisputed areas.

The problem is that the former deal was already fake and not kept so its unlikely that she has much time to convince ankara. Give it a couple of days- maximum weeks then

Tension in the Eastern Mediterranean has given way to a brief intermission. If the German chancellor fails, the tension between Turkey and Greece will return in all areas including the Aegean Sea, Cyprus and the Eastern Mediterranean.

Wasting time...

EU nows that Greec is in this case wrong but still they are defending them. What will Germany come and solve it? Turkey must accept Greece will be the solving problem, not wasting time and send the ships.

Turkey has alot of fronts opened, in Syria against Bashar/Russia/Iran, even shot Russian plane. In Libya against Saudi/Uae/Egypt/Russia/France. Front in Iraq, small influence in Yemen, now against Greece which is backed by France/EU.

Which country would help Turkey if the situation gets out of control? Many neighbouring countries would be praying for a war between Eu and Turkey or between Russia and Turkey.

Turkey needs to play its card right.
Bring about a deal with Syria and form a unity government which gives more power to the sunnis minus the extremists and Ikhwanis, this will get rid of tensions with Iran/Russia/Syria.

In Iraq work with Iraq/Iran to give more rights to the sunnis. In Libya its a stalemate, Turkey or Egypt can't risk an all out war, it will only benefit the enemies of Muslims and the snakes, I can't see a unity government as long as extremists and Ikhwanis are supported.

If the Iraqi,Syrian, Libyan problem is sorted then Turkey can concentrate on Greece issue, they cannot deal with 4 different fronts, I sense a great conspiracy to weaken Turkey as most likely Turkish future is not West but Asia.

Turkey reminds me of the old Iran during Shah time, a very powerful nation with great weaponry but once the west realised Iran is out of their hands, they started a war between Iraq and Iran, no matter who won, the iranian military power declined considerably and most high tech weapons were destroyed. I wouldn't be surprised if they're planned something similar with Turkey.
