What's new

In solidarity with the Hindu/Indian posters here on Defence.PK

Indian Christians can easily be identified. Even the Syriac Mallu and Goan Christians can be identified by their way of speaking. I've studied in a convent school, I've had Parsi teachers, Goan Christian and Sri Lankan teachers. They are easily differentiable from desi people. You give me cow belt BIMARU or Gujju Marathi vibes.

I have not interacted with this particular user much, but he is speaking the truth here. Many Goan Christians do give Marathi vibes. Because that is what they speak at home. Or, Konkani. Some do speak Portuguese, but mostly the older ones.

Again, Anglo Indians are very different from Goan Christians.

Goans in Pakistan are culturally different from their brethren in India. Each community has adapted to its host nation that is why those "vibes" which you speak of.

My teacher was a Christian with a Noronha surname. I'm guessing that is a Portuguese surname. No honey, Christians have a very different vibe to desi people regardless of their denomination.
There are Goan Christians in Karachi? Did they migrated to Pakistan in 1947?

It doesn't matter.

This has been pointed out repeatedly to Pakistani, Indian and posters from other nationalities.

DO NOT argue over or accuse someone of lying about their identity. There is no way to conclusively prove things one way or another.

What you can establish is that a particular poster has a particular point of view - that's it. Pakistanis get riled up when members with Pakistani flags criticize and attack the Army or Pakistan. We need only look towards people like Hussain Haqqani, Farahnaz Ispahani, Gul Bukhari, Marvi Sirmed, Ayesha Siddiqa, Ali Wazir or various other public figures who are Pakistani that such views do exist, and the same applies towards Indians and other nationalities.

If you really feel like someone is a 'false flagger', report the post/user (no guarantee anything will be done) and ignore/block them.

Discussing the USER instead of their arguments is something that really needs to stop - many a good thread and discussion have been ruined by this, whether it is over accusations of false nationality, country of residence, religion or sect.

A timely reminder.

I was among those who were highly suspicious of this member, among other things for his repeated use of the phrase "...you Indians..." and for a highly objectionable interlude where there was use of appalling language about women. Since then, I have come to the conclusion that these misgivings are best kept to oneself, posts are best answered on merit, and other posts are either ignored, if in the nature of misdemeanours, or reported, if felonies.

As for this OP, it was highly overdue and needed to be said. Most relevant.

Goans and Karachi had a very long history, and solidified after 1947, when Karachi and Pakistan was their primary trading partner, until of course India took over Goa in 1961. There are a lot (I know a lot is a relative number) of Goan Hindus and Christians in Karachi.
Hmmm Its first time I am hearing about them. I haven't got much socialization of Hindus and Christians

No there are a few. They live in Saddar, around St Patrick's Church area. They migrated before 1947 as clerks under British rule.
Hmmm. South has pretty good number of minorities

If some of the Indian members have been offended by my usage of that phrase "you Indians", I will extend my apology right here. This was crass and insensitive of me. I will try not to use that expression in the future.

As @xeuss said, this is a mindset problem of many NRI's like me. And it's definitely something to improve upon.

So, I am sorry about using that demeaning expression.

and for a highly objectionable interlude where there was use of appalling language about women.

I have never said anything appalling about women here, except as a joke, perhaps. But, to follow the forum rules, I will try not to bring up women in the future discussions.

Are you basing your conclusion that XYZ member isn't Goan based on your interaction with Goan Christians that live in Karachi and moved there before 1947?

Wouldn't you have to account for a small community absorbing (or being impacted by) certain cultural and linguistic traits from the surrounding larger communities and evolving to where it may no longer be identical to the natives of the land from where they migrated? And that's assuming no inter-marriages with local Christians, Hindus or Muslims from different ethnic communities.

That's all water under the bridge now. I notice that a close friend, whose judgement I trust implicitly, has been among the early ones to endorse your OP. Your posts deserve to be dealt with on merit, the only problem being that they are frequently so close to mine that in juxtaposition, they seem to be one parodying the other. @AgNoStiC MuSliM, poor, long-suffering minder of this kindergarten, has addressed enough admonitions to those of us who have been back-sliders for the message to finally seep in, and I request you to move on, and make a new start with those of us who erred.

Christian live mostly around St Patricks and Empress Market area. There used to be a Parsi colony on MA Jinnah road near Soldier Bazar but most of them have migrated to the West or died. There's a Parsi fire temple just before Empress Market.

Btw whoever says that Hindus are all poor and oppressed in Pakistan needs to come to my area. 2 supermarkets owned by Sindhi Hindus.

There are so many Hindus as Doctors all over Sindh

North Nazimabad ya Gulshan-e-Iqbal? With that I have exhausted all my knowledge of Karachi:)

It was I who accused you. And I still accuse you loool. Goan Christians don't talk like you do, they talk in an Anglo Indian way like padamchen who is a Parsi. Only bhakts type like you do.

<sigh!>

The amount you don't know.

There are bhakts among Konkanis as well; Parrekar was one. So what? Shyama Prasad Mukherjee was an arch-bhakt, and a Bengali; so what? That doesn't make me a bhakt.

There are horrendous Sanghis among Telugus, including an *** named Venkaiah Naidu; so do we put @ChennaiDude on a cross?

PS Oh, if you think Goan Christians talk in an Anglo-Indian way, I have a nasty surprise for you. There is a member of the forum who has a very abrupt way of persuasion, and may take the time and trouble to 'persuade' you. You DON'T want to meet him.
