NEW DELHI: If PM-designate Narendra Modi had a problem with Indian leaders serving biryani to their Pakistan counterparts, he certainly has nothing to worry about when he meets Nawaz Sharif over dinner at Rashtrapati Bhavan. The spread, though sumptuous, doesn't include biryani, the rice-based dish made generally with meat.

Modi had turned biryani into a euphemism for UPA's alleged meekness? in dealing with Pakistan by repeatedly referring to what he described as biryani diplomacy for over a year now.
The shoe was on the other foot, or so thought Congress leader Shashi Tharoor when he tweeted last week, "If Nawaz Sharif does accept the invitation, let's hope Narendra Modi will serve him chicken biryani."

Modi attacked the UPA government for serving chicken biryani to then PM Raja Pervez Ashraf in Ajmer in March last year when, he said, an Indian soldier had been beheaded. He also urged Manmohan Singh to call off his biryani meeting with Sharif in New York last year. Modi referred to biryani diplomacy against at a rally in Baghpat earlier this year.
