The survey was commissioned by the NGO Jagori/Safe Delhi, the United Nations Development Fund for Women, and UN Habitat.

"Women in the national capital feel unsafe in many public spaces, and at all times of the day and night, Public transport, buses and roadsides are reported as spaces where women and girls face high levels of sexual harassment.

Most women who were surveyed said buses were the most unsafe form of transport.

Many said the Metro system, which used to be safer earlier, is now equally crowded and unsafe."

The report says the most common forms of harassment are “verbal (passing lewd comments), visual (staring and leering) and physical (touching or groping or leaning over)

Delhi is a horrible city filled with mental village people. Money does not buy culture or civilized behavior.

Look at Mumbai hardly any rapes or harassment or Bangalore compared to the "capital".

‘Violence against women on the rise’

LAHORE: Violence against women is increasing in the country and only the youth can curb this social problem, according to a seminar titled ‘The problems of female youth’ on Monday. The seminar was the first organised by the Progressive Youth Front (PYF) of Punjab. Speakers discussed a number of problems, including honour killings, childhood marriages, the Hudood Ordinance, sale of women, sexual harassment and inequality. In her speech, Rabia Shad of the PYF said the lack of facilities for female education was the major problem. She said feudal lords and religious extremists in Pakistan were against educating women. Sana Safdar, also of the PYF, said the female literacy rate was less than 40 percent overall and less than 21 percent in the rural areas. She said around 75 percent of rural girls missed school after primary education because they were no separate schools for them. She said millions of underage girls were married each year worldwide, out of which 20 to 30 percent of them were in Pakistan. She said 80 percent of women had experienced emotional violence while 70 percent both physical and emotional violence. Later, participants staged a demonstration against police highhandedness at the Punjab University. staff report

Sorry to hear about this.

In Hong Kong we see Pakistanis and Indians as the most well behaved of immigrants. They are the best example of good behaviour for new immigrants, others should learn from them!

Must be a problem with train infrastructure in Delhi that causes such a problem. The Japanese had the same problem with "groping" but I think they are solving it now, you should see what their solutions are.

I am amazed that the number is just 66%...I was expecting it to be more.....Delhi is called Rape Capital of India for some reason...right???........As far as making it safe then god knows when will it happen......With so many immigrants pouring in on such a large scale it is a nightmare to provide security ....however the same issues are faced by Police across the globe and they surely are doing better job then Delhi Police...

New Delhi faces an infrastructure nightmare.Recent infra developments within the city has stretched the police thin. This issues must be addressed immediately

Sensationalism and yellow journalism is on its peak. They forget Delhi's population i.e. in the top three most populated cities in the world still the crime rate is low compare to the cities like new york etc.

Aren't we talking about crime against women??? Also remember that the number of incidents reported by people in City Like New York is no where comparable to Delhi....On top of that i have not heard Gals in NY worried about being alone during night...or getting raped in a moving car in broad day light even though police was informed....

So let's not undermine the issue....Delhi is really bad for women especially single women....Delhi need's to emulate Mumbai as far as crime against women is concerned....

Just to give an example I have lived in delhi and been to mumbai, pune...I was shocked to see women walking all alone at 1:00 AM on a dim lit street.....Cannot imagine any such thing in delhi....
