Yes we need aircrafts. But we cannot afford Gripens(The thread is about gripens).
I am also against acquisition of Gripens because they are 'worthless' as frontline combat planes for any air force. Only South Africa, Thailand and Czech Rep inducted them in small numbers because they foresee no conflict in the near future.
Our case is vastly different. No to Gripens for dozens of reasons which reinforce each other to build up a case against the acquisition of Gripens.
Bangladesh is 'poor' state heading towards becoming a social welfare state.
What social welfare state? BAL's wholesale looting is now called "social welfare"?
The countries you compare Bangladesh to:
1.India-middle income country(Bangladesh is low income country).Faces conflict with Pakistan and China.
"Middle Income" and "low income" are 'artificial distinctions'. Both economies are more or less on par (on per capita basis). If you are a Qatari or a Japanese, both the countries will look equally poor.
Another analogy: If you live in Burj Khalifa, a 9 storey building will be about as tall as a 10 storey building. Just because the latter requires two digits (using base 10) when it is written does not mean these two 9 story and 10 storey buildings are in 'different classes'.
Also, the most significant threat to the existence of independent BD.
2.Burma-military regime
Another minor threat, of nuisance value, but should neve be ignored.
3.North Korea-Military first policy(Dictatorial regime)
Yet, its GDP per capita is comparable to BD (even despite all their hardships isolation and sanctions). And their military might is incomparable to BD (i.e. DPRK military far superior than BD military in total 'power' despite however much many Westerners may curse it).
4.Syria-Dictatorial regime backed by military
Still not a very 'large' or wealthy country.
5.Armenia-6 times per capita gdp than bangladesh, higher HDI.
In that case, why does Brazil or Norway operate so few fighter aircrafts, but the world's largest dump with the highest number of illiterates and hungry operate so many (mostly outdated) fighters?
By the way, do countries purchase fighter aircrafts on a per capita basis, or on an 'aggregate basis'? Do countries ask Chinese, or Russians to sell X number of fighter aircrafts PER CAPITA, OR do countries ask Chinese or Russians for X number of fighter aircrafts in TOTAL for their airforces?
If your pick is the latter, then what does Armenia's per capita GDP have to do with the discussion?
6.Belarus-15 times per capita gdp, high HDI,part of the soviet union.
In that case, why does Brazil or Norway operate so few fighter aircrafts, but the world's largest dump with the highest number of illiterates and hungry operate so many (mostly outdated) fighters?

7.Uganda-1/3 of the parliament is appointed by the military.the have 17 fighters in total.
EVEN Uganda got 6 Su-30, and BD got no Su-30.
8.Jordan-5 times our GDP per capita.higher HDI. Situated in the most volatile region on this planet.
In that case, why does Brazil or Norway operate so few fighter aircrafts, but the world's largest dump with the highest number of illiterates and hungry operate so many (mostly outdated) fighters?

9.Singapore-Exploited it's ports(their ports has been being used by nations since time immemorial)Very high HDI,Very high gdp per capita.

10.Yemen-Dictatorial regime until last year.
Bangladesh had 'dictatorial' regime from 1947 to 1991, and bi-dictatorial/duopoly rule since 1991. What did Bangladesh get?
For us to increase our military spending will mean we will of to cut spending from other projects.Kindly name some projects that we should discontinue to fund our military. Our monetary policy is not a military first policy.Human development is prioritized in our system. You cannot change that.
1. Reduce corruption.
2. Raise GDP.
3. Cut BS spending on women's rights nonsense and other projects supported by Western NGOs.
4. Many other examples.
