In first, U.S. presents its evidence of Iran weaponry from Yemen
Phil Stewart
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The United States on Thursday presented for the first time pieces of what it said were Iranian weapons supplied to the Iran-aligned Houthi militia in Yemen, describing it as conclusive evidence that Tehran was violating U.N. resolutions.

The arms included charred remnants of what the Pentagon said was an Iranian-made short-range ballistic missile fired from Yemen on Nov. 4 at King Khaled International Airport outside Saudi Arabia’s capital Riyadh, as well as a drone and an anti-tank weapon recovered in Yemen by the Saudis.

Iran has denied supplying the Houthis with such weaponry and on Thursday described the arms displayed as “fabricated.”

The United States acknowledged it could not say precisely when the weapons were transferred to the Houthis, and, in some cases could not say when they were used. There was no immediate way to independently verify where the weapons were made or employed.

But U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley expressed confidence that the transfers could be blamed on Tehran.

“These are Iranian made, these are Iranian sent, and these were Iranian given,” Haley told a news conference at a military hangar at Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling, just outside Washington.

All of the recovered weapons were provided to the United States by Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, the Pentagon said. Saudi-led forces, which back the Yemeni government, have been fighting the Houthis in Yemen’s more than two-year-long civil war.

The unprecedented presentation - which Haley said involved intelligence that had to be declassified - is part of President Donald Trump’s new Iran policy, which promises a harder line toward Tehran. That would appear to include new diplomatic push.

“You will see us build a coalition to really push back against Iran and what they’re doing,” Haley said, standing in front of what she said were the remnants of the Nov. 4 missile.

Under a U.N. resolution that enshrines the Iran nuclear deal with world powers, Tehran is prohibited from supplying, selling or transferring weapons outside the country unless approved by the U.N. Security Council. A separate U.N. resolution on Yemen bans the supply of weapons to Houthi leader Abdul-Malik al-Houthi and others.

Iran on Thursday rejected the U.S. accusations as unfounded.

“These accusations seek also to cover up for the Saudi war crimes in Yemen, with the U.S. complicity, and divert international and regional attention from the stalemate war of aggression against the Yemenis,” Iran’s mission to the United Nations said in a statement.

IRAN LINKS
The Pentagon offered a detailed explanation of all of the reasons why it believed the arms came from Iran, noting what it said were Iranian corporate logos on arms fragments and the unique nature of the designs of Iranian weaponry.

That included the designs of short-range “Qiam” ballistic missiles. The Pentagon said it had obtained fragments of two Qiam missiles, one fired on Nov. 4 against the airport and another fired on July 22.

The Pentagon cited corporate logos it said matched those of Iranian defense firms on jet vanes that help steer the missile’s engine and on the circuit board helping drive its guidance system. It also said the missile’s unique valve-design was only found in Iran.

Iran, it said, appeared to have tried to cover up the shipment by disassembling the missile for transport, given crude welding used to stitch it back together.

RELATED COVERAGE
“The point of this entire display is that only Iran makes this missile. They have not given it to anybody else,” Pentagon spokeswoman Laura Seal said. “We haven’t seen this in the hands of anyone else except Iran and the Houthis.”

A new U.N. report found that the July 22 and Nov. 4 missiles fired at Saudi Arabia by the Houthis appeared to have a “common origin.” But the report said U.N. officials were still investigating U.S. and Saudi claims that Iran supplied them.

The Pentagon put on display other weapons with designs it said were unique to Iran’s defense industry. It pointed to a key component of a Toophan anti-tank guided missile and a small drone aircraft, both of which it said were recovered in Yemen by the Saudis.

It also showed components of a drone-like navigation system like the one the Pentagon says was used by the Houthis to ram an exploding boat into a Saudi frigate on Jan. 30. The United Arab Emirates seized the system in late 2016 in the Red Sea, the Pentagon said.

As if we didn't know that when the media talks of "Houthi missile" - it's Iranian missile.

Everyone knows Tehran started this conflict and has armed the Houthis.

. . .
yeah one time i wrote another kids name under a d*ck i drew on my teachers whiteboard and he got detention

So let me get this right, supposed Iranian missile shot at Riyadh airport with no casualties constitutes some kind of a crime, yet American and UK weaponry that is slaughtering tens of thousands in a foreign land is OK.

Even if the missile was from Iran, so what? Are US and UK the only countries allowed to peddle weaponry?

.
This missile launched from Yemen and Landed in SA .
why US is showing this to the world ? wasn't it logical that SA show this to us ?

I mean common dear SA your credibility to us is in same level of US government nothing more nothing less just same level .please don't be like that :o:

its official guys we live in world without borders and few governments :usflag:

It's not about whether "we already knew this" or "this is fake".
The language used is borderline war declaration. These types of press conferences don't happen often.

But she doesn't give any specific steps either even when she's giving specific steps in the final question at the end.
That makes me think this was Trump's idea to just say that he's right about Iran. I'm surprised it wasn't Trump who gave the speech.
In that case, just move on.

Is this b!tch for real? Looks like Colin Powel standing next to an Iraqi WMD that we never found...
Lets assume what they say is right and this missile is made in Iran . they said its Qiam missile.
last time ISIS attacked Iran parliament our forces launched 6 Qiam missiles to ISIS held area in Syria . does it mean they got our missiles left overs from ISIS ?
that was not some random missile launching it was ISIS head quarter in middle of ISIS held area . Now our american friends must show us why they think it has same unique valve that they only saw in Iranian missiles and from where they got similar Qiam missile components

Published on 14 Dec 2017WASHINGTON, Dec. 14, 2017 –At Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling here is concrete proof that the Iranian regime is exporting arms to sow instability and promote violence throughout the region. In the hangar are three intact Iranian weapon systems and debris from a fourth, recovered from the battlefields of the Middle East that can be directly traced to Tehran. Specifically, the hangar contains “objects that provide evidence of Iranian weapons proliferation in violation of U.N. Security Council resolutions 2216 and 2231,” Seal said. Iranian-Made Weapons The weapons systems on display were retrieved from battlefields in the Middle East by U.S. partners in the region -- primarily Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, Seal said. The four systems are a short-range ballistic missile, an antitank guided missile, an unmanned aerial vehicle and exploding boat technology. “All four include parts made by [the] Iranian government-run defense industry, and all could have only come from Iran,” Seal said. There are pieces of two Iranian Qiam missiles launched from Yemen into Saudi Arabia. One targeted the Yanbu oil facility, and the other was aimed at King Khalid International Airport. “Only Iran makes the Qiam,” Seal said. Another piece of equipment is an Iranian-made antitank guided missile called a Toophan. “This one was obtained by Saudi Arabia on the battlefield,” Seal said. The missile is a high-precision, direct-fire weapon with a range of about 2.4 miles. The Houthis in Yemen use them to target infrastructure and vehicles, officials said, noting that the Houthis do not have the technology to manufacture these weapons. The display also showcases a Qasef-1 unmanned aerial vehicle operated by Houthi forces, which was recovered by Saudi Arabia. “The Qasef-1 can be used as a one-way attack drone -- diving on targets Kamikaze-style and detonating its warhead upon impact,” Seal said. “Only Iran makes the Qasef-1. It is a member of the Ababil UAV family, designed and produced by the Iranian government.” Finally, the display features the guidance system from an Iranian Shark-33 boat. This is an explosive-laden, unmanned boat used in an attack the Saudi Arabian frigate HMS al Madinah. That attack killed two and injured three and left a 5-by-6.5-foot hole in the ship’s hull, Seal said. Finally, the boat’s onboard camera captures a still image of its location every time the guidance software turns on. “Images found on the Shark 33's computer show it inside what is probably an Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps facility in eastern Tehran,” she said.

LOL we have heard it all before. This is nothing new and the world doesn’t care.

Trumpland just got red faced after recognizing Jerusalem as Israel’s capital and the rest of the world just stood by nodding their head. We can understand where this sudden desperation is coming from.
