Army chief regrets accepting earlier extension, sources

ISLAMABAD (Umar Cheema) Chief of Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa has started his farewell meetings while all speculations regarding his extension in office have died down. It is also expected to reduce the political uncertainty that was likely to increase as a result of such a decision.
There were reports that the government and the army chief's common allies wanted the army chief to be extended but the proposal did not find strong support from either side. A source close to the army chief has vehemently denied the impression that he wants to continue in his job.
On the contrary, General Bajwa started a series of farewell meetings from November 1, which meant he had no plans for an extension, the source said. According to an ISPR press release, last Wednesday he visited Peshawar Corps after which he also visited Sialkot and Mangal Garrison on Thursday.
He not only met the officers but also addressed them. He appreciated the excellent performance of the formations during various operations and training and calamities. General Bajwa has said several times that he will not take the extension, especially during backstage discussions with journalists and political leaders.
Recently, while talking to senior journalists at the National Defense University, he said that he will retire on the scheduled date of November 29. He took the same stand during the conversation with other visitors. A visitor said that the Army Chief regretted accepting the previous extension that the Imran Khan government had given him in 2019.
Imran Khan had talked about giving another extension to General Bajwa on the occasion of presenting the motion of no confidence in February this year. However, he declined the offer. This was disclosed by DGISI Lt Gen Nadeem Anjum during his press conference last month.
Even Imran Khan did not deny this. This situation was further confirmed by the fact that General Bajwa expressed his reluctance to act even while talking to the leaders of friendly countries, even though he knew that these countries could prove effective if lobbied for expansion. are
A source told The News that recently when Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif was on a visit to Saudi Arabia, he came to know about this as the topic of change of command in Pakistan Army was also discussed in the discussion. Recently, when the common friends talked about giving extension to General Bajwa, even then it was not clear why these friends did it and on whose behalf they did it.
General Bajwa was appointed as the Army Chief on November 20, 2016 by the then Prime Minister Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif. Prime Minister Imran Khan extended his government for three years. If Caretaker Prime Minister Nasir-ul-Mulk is also included, five Prime Ministers changed during this period.

will cheema get the Arshad Sharif treatment?

This is the reason why we are suffering as a nation. Why give importance to a non-elected 21st grade govt officer (military chief) so much ? Why its even a news that Army chief is visiting such and such Garrisons ? Its hilarious. You will never hear such comedy in any civilized world.

In any civilized country, in any economic power with professional armies You will never see so much news coverage, you will never see even military vehicles within the cities. Because they do not belong in the cities, they do not belong in the politics, they do not belong in real estate business. Only then the army can be called professional if its "Professional" in its core job. That's looking after the borders and protection of lives of civilians and territorial integrity from hostile actors.

The civilians of the country are the employers of Army. Civilians pay for salaries, perks and everything that Army enjoys from our Taxes. We hired military as our "body guard". Its mandate should and must remain till that domain only. A professional force in other countries knows that civilians and their elected officials are the real boss. Whole country runs with their money. In any country including our neighbor india the Army cheif will salute even a provincial minister because he knows the elected officers are above his rank. Thinking one above over rest of the nation (Because of the hard power ie guns and tanks) can be the thinking of only sick and coward force.

The only difference between us and india since 47 was that their military remained professional, never intervened and they understood that they were never equipped nor they had any intellect to run the country. Our Army directly ruled the country with hard power (guns and tanks) for half of its tenure. Rest of the period is clearly through indirect control. By this commentary I by no means that combat capability of our army is less then india. No. We as a nation will always stand with our forces when it comes to india. But its time We must send them once and forever to the barracks. The barracks also needs to be located outside cities. Their interest in real estate and other businesses must be eliminated and Pakistan army must be transformed into a professional force the way it should be.

Thank you

Same Zeel ? You guys are Zaleel in the eyes on nation now, if you have iota of honor and dignity, leave the job. From Sepoy to General every one is a haram khor who is just out there sucking the blood of Pakistan.

@The Accountant you negative rating means shit. The truth hurts and pakis like you simply can't handle the truth. Your society is society of haramis. Bajwa is an elder his parents and paksotan as whole. So suck it up
Dude, @The Accountant is one of the most vocal critic of current Army leadership and their doings, relax he is only stopping you to insult his mother, although I agree that she is partially to be blamed that she didn't raise him good but abusing her will not be a good idea. We have stories of people abusing Prophet SAW, and his companions in worse ways possible and not a single time they insult their enemies mothers. So Keep abusing Bajwa and Army for whatever they did and doing, but i don't think its wise to use vulgar words for mothers or fathers.
