The Job Description of an Architect is quite different than a city planner...

The problem is that in BD theres no reputable Urban Planning research groups
let alone firms, but there are quite a handful of Urban Planners, unfortunately they end up
in round tables only.

I doubt it.... A engineer can be made an Architect, not the other way around..

Kinda know that guy personally , a family friend
as well as our professions are common, he's
one of those few Bangladeshis who gets invited
to lecture alot in western hemisphere.



Yeah, , don't worry he's better than civil engineers
and so called urban planners !

Rajuk is garbage, better not go there. If you are interested I can send you some architect site who are doing master planning in all over Europe and other places. No woories.

Oh, DAP was not so much of a master planning, it was more like lay out of the city and much higher level than actual master planning. Master planning requires much more detail level involvement.

DAP is based on existing land patterns , and it's efficient use,
there were Architects,Urban Planners and Engineers all in sych while
implementing that.

Anyways let me give you an example, the only area that was planned
by an architect in Dhaka was, guess what, Shangshad Bhaban Area.

Do not worry about my reaction, speak up your mind. Anyway, today it is quite difficult for a civil engineer to become an archtect. Architecture has become a specialized work that can only be done by the architects. Any building of today look so beautiful. It may not be achieved by civil engineers who lack artsitic minds. For instance, there are so many types of tiles and glass fittings.

On the other hand, a civil engineer with an intuition for calculation can become a Structural Engineer, who does the stress analysis of a building or structure where the dead loads or self loads, live loads, wind loads and seismic load (force) try to break it.

But, urban planning is little different. Depending upon the requirements by the govt or by the developer, an urban planning may include roads, footpaths, gardening, children's park, rainwater and (human) waste water systems, schools, tree plantings, car parkings, public auditorium, sports clubs, play grounds, garbage disposal , overbridges and many other things.

So, I think, architects alone cannot fulfill the the demand of the job of an urban planner. They need (general) civil engineeers to join them. However, I thought you are a civil engineer. I am little disappointed that you are an architect. But, I would like to know about the type of
works you are doing now.

Rajuk, planners, architects and civil engineers are not the problem. They do a wonderful job, the problem is; lets say rajuk plans a damn road which requires acquiring some sort of land and the land happens to be of some big shot. So the big shot pays rajuk, engineers, planners and civil engineers to re plan the other way. In other instances with proper money and influence you can change how you plan or bring in the roads by your land side to increase the value of the land. It has been also a lucrative awami league dalali business in the recent times where BAL folks would buy a piece of land in the middle of nowhere, then bring gas line to the land through influence then sell that damn piece of land 5 -10 times the value. The whole system is epically screwed and corrupt.

Sorry to disappoint you Eastwatch, you see I’m more of
a painter than a mathematician so the discipline was
obvious for me. Although when time requires I indulge
into any sort of bizarre simulations to get the work done.

Right now finishing off a residence project with enough
thermal properties to make the places react suitably
in our tropical weather. This is more of a research prototype.
I specialize in energy simulation programs and computational
Fluid dynamics (CFD) analysis (eg. Wind simulation).

On the topic of Urban Planning, yes what we need is a
Specialized Urban planning research group consisting
specialists from various fields. I’ll even recommend
Archeologists as they research on sociological membranes
of various timeframes. The knowledge of which

i see you guys always blame bal, why dont you blame the common people who support bal blindly, i mean i dont blame them anymore, their fans dont seem to be objecting to what they are doing, just you and me on some obscure part of the internet
