number of international tourists to Bangladesh in 2010 was 300,000 people who spent $81million. That's for the whole country. That's barely enough money to build one reasonable 5-star hotel. Do you really think there is enough capital and infrastructure in Cox's Bazaar for 50(!) 5-star hotels? Come on...

There are probably like 5 or 6 five star projects, rest of the other projects are time share apartments being sold to customers are "5 star hotels" or just your average budget hotels.

As of April 2010 there were about 48 accredited 5 star hotels in India and cox bazaar alone has 50 5 star hotels.

You idiot.... Do you have any knowledge about internal and external changes that is going through in Bangladesh??? Outside tourist is low because of lack of proper infrastructure and facilities... But government has already implemented projects to upgrade that. Not only that UAE, Qatar, Saudi arabiya, Malaysia expressed interest to upgrade and invest in tourism sector of Bangladesh. So it can be expected foreign tourist will continue to increase.

But major source of tourist is the middle class of Bangladesh which numbers around 50 million equivalent to almost total population of your country... Most of them prefer to go to coxs bazar in any sort of vacation, most of the honey moon couple goes there...friends as a group occasionally goes there for time pass. So 50 5 star hotel is still a less amount. In the coming years more will be built.

Better do not answer the posts of these Myanmar and Indian posters. They are curious, but they feel ashamed of our development or their own underdevelopment. They see Bangaldesh what it was 50 years before. Instead of feeling left out these two countries should start developing anew with the addition of new groups of middle class.

Japan did not develop with the foreign tourism money. We already are doing similarly. Future of BD will be built by our own people, and not with through away Dimes from those poor foreign tourists. Our developers are building new Hotels not in the hope of attracting foreign tourists, but to attract local tourists. Foreigners are certainly welcome, but we should not expect or depend upon them.
