Pakistan has rejected the offer of $ 14 billion Chinese aid for the Dammer dam. A prominent Pakistani newspaper has claimed this in its report. Not only that, Islamabad has asked China to keep out this dam project worth of $ 60 billion CPEC project and let it be completely with Pakistan. This project is located in Azad Kashmir on which India boasts its claim.
Earlier, the Asian Development Bank had refused to lend the dam project, because it is becoming in the disputed area. A top official said that instead of adhering to the stringent conditions of Chinese companies, Pakistan would prefer to invest money in this project.
Pakistan-based sources said that international lenders are making strict adherence to the funding of this project. Because of this, the expenditure on the project has increased to $ 14 billion. Initially, this project was estimated to cost $ 5 billion.
“The conditions of China’s economic support for the DEMER dam were unacceptable and against our interests,” the Express Tribune quoted Sadar Mujammil Hussain of the Water and Power Development Authority said that Prime Minister Shahid Khakon Abbasi has approved a plan to build a dam through the country’s own resource.
Pakistan’s stance is shocking for the sources of the Beijing issue of information about the whole issue. Some of them are not ready to accept this report and say that Pakistan can not take such a step without discussing with Chinese officials.
A Chinese expert, based in Beijing, said that Pakistan would not be able to take the risk of rejecting Beijing’s offer as the CPEC’s ambitious project would not be insulated.
In his presentation to the Public Accounts Committee of Parliament, Hussain said that China had wanted Pakistan to mortgage any existing project to get funds for a new dam project. Quoting Hussein, the newspaper has written that in the terms of China, for any dam, or funding, any running dam would be pledged.
On the distance, former Indian diplomat M.K. Bhadkumar did not see this move by Pakistan as a shock to the OBOR. Bhadkumar said, ‘I do not think there is any mischief here. China has left it to Pakistan whether it wants to keep DEMER-DAM under the OBOR or not.
