In a first, PM Narendra Modi may fly fighter jet Rafale

. .
Will he clear the medical?
A big question, then again, if she can pass the medical:

I don't see why Modi couldn't (unless he has some serious health issues we don't know about)

This isn't going to be a combat mission or even an aerial demonstration pulling 4G+, this will be a leisurely flight, a simple take off, fly about and landing. Modi has travelled by plane so this shouldn't be a huge difference.

Also can any aviation expert here tell me if its possible for someone who wears spectacles/glasses to fly in a fighter jet?
In the IAF I AFAIK the requirement is for 20-20 unaided sight (so no glasses or contact lenses permitted) but other AFs allow for 20-20 corrected vision allowing for contact lenses and glasses, in fact many HMDS today allow for th option of the display retinal to be a prescription level so the helmet does the corrective vision for you.

+ I've said in the Rafale thread, this could be a big signal, IF Modi flies in the Rafale (a lot of reasons he won't- medical, safety concerns etc) this could be a clear signal the Rafale is coming to India.

After the deal IAF will ground entire fleet of aged inventory e.g Migs etc?

You can afford more crashes and risk valuable lives.?
Most MiG-21 and MiG-27s will be out of service by 2019 at the latest, a few MiG-21 Bison squadrons (the heavily upgraded version) will fly until 2022.

Not really only issue i can imagine is him failing his medical or something when SPG and IAF try clearing him for the flight. He has had flu in the past and does not have 20/20 vision either. 20/20 vision is a must for fighter pilots
You realise he isn't gong to be flying a combat mission? He is only going up (potentially) for a joy ride, nothing more. He doesn't need to be a TACDE instructor to do that.

Well its a relief this has been cancelled. SPG does not want 2 engine helicopter unlikely they will allow Modiji to fly on 2 engine plane. Same reason they are not willing to change his 4 engine 747 jet.

On another note what is SPG planning to acquire in the long run? Mi17v5 is a good chopper but can't match 3 engine safety of AW101
The AW-101 saga is not over, work is going on behind the scenes to get the AW-101s the IAF had originally selected as per the comments of the Indian Attorney General.

Thank you for the reply. Really good.. appreciate it.

If that real estate agent pratiba patil can fly in su30 then i think modi won't have issues flying in Rafale.

By high g manueveres i mean something like this

IAF has 3 AW101 de-assemebeld in Palam (Delhi airport). I hope they acquire the rest. Defence Minister is on un-blacklisting spree and corruption was never proven ( only fudging invoices ) so there is solid chance that remaining 9? will be acquired and spares will flow in for all 12

Here is some cold water on the prospect :(

Bengaluru, Feb 07: The Ministry of Defence (MoD) on Saturday denied reports that Prime Minister Narednra Modi is likely to fly a Rafale jet during the forthcoming Aero India 2015.

MoD officially clarified that the "news item in a section of the media that ‘PM may fly in a Rafale,' is baseless.

"It is clarified that there is no plan for the Prime Minister Narendra Modi to fly in any fighter jet. The news item is incorrect, misconceived and is not based on facts," MoD spokesperson Sitanshu Kar said.

He said the the conduct of Aero India, a premier aero-show of Asia, has no linkage with any of the acquisition plans pursued by the MoD.

"Aero India will witness the participation of most of the original defence equipment manufactures from across the globe. As such, the event held biennially, provides defence manufacturers to showcase their products and innovations taking in the field," he said.

MoD woke up to ‘breaking news'

Sources in MoD told OneIndia that the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) was embarrassed by the news item. "The clarification explains the seriousness of the matter. It was a serious error," an MoD official said refusing to give more details, said.

Fight from Saturday morning, the news item was received with ‘amusement' among defence circles. Online defence enthusiasts too got active with many wondering why Modi ‘chose Rafale' in instead of Sukhoi, the frontline Indian fighter.

While the MoD is yet to make an official statement, it is likely that Modi will be attending the 10th edition of Aero India.

What's the point of the Prime Minister to fly the jet?

If Dassault doesn't comply with the tender rules IT SIGNED at the time of bidding then it is bye-bye.

Just the good Guju taking a free ride before he says No to the deal :D

. . . .
Why every country wants to be strong and powerful?

they say if you want your way in world than you should have power to make that way same goes to countries.Countries have their Interests and they will have to protect those interests. To protect you need to have weapon and friends. And one truth is that most of the times you will protect your interests fine even without those weapons and friends.
