What's new

In a first, Islamic State fighters seize substantial territory in Afghanistan

Government forces in Nangarhar confirmed clashes between the Taliban and IS offshoots, but army spokesman Atefi said they were not targeting IS militants.

Achin's district chief, Malek Islam, also said Afghan forces were not confronting IS fighters, who he said were "almost everywhere in the district", but were targeting the Taliban.

"They (IS) haven't attacked us, and we haven't engaged them either," he said.

In a first, Islamic State fighters seize substantial territory in Afghanistan - The Times of India

Interesting.. Very Interesting.. So Afghan forces are not engaging IS and are only attacking Afghan Taliban. So Taliban is getting hit from both side - Afghan forces and ISIS..

This should further complicate equations of few countries.

Another jew , they all hide behind the american flag and cringe for just getting called out

I doubt ISIS will get a foothold in Afghanistan , in time they might take over Israel but unlikely they'll make their way to Afghanistan and beyond

this is really bad "Another jew" -- what does this mean?

How many Jews do you know -- 1/3 of my friends are Jewish (including dual citizens of Israel), including teachers, mentors, friends. I've never, ever been discriminated by a Jewish person. And, my story is not unique.

Muslims, yes Pakistanis get scholarships at Brandies university (which was founded by the Jewish community) (yes even Hijabi ones) -- I personally have been helped when in tight spots by Professors of Jewish heritage, been hired by people of Jewish decent and know of religious American Pakistanis who work for companies owned by Orthodox and ultra-Orthodox Jews.

The problems that plague the Muslim world are not caused by Israelis, Jews, Hindus and America, there are problems, primarily of backwardness, superstition, poverty, etc.

I'm sure nobody would have a problem which Muslims if for example they won 1/6 of the Nobel Prizes, had advanced economies, were comprised of liberal democracies.

Yet, people are sentenced to death for practicing sorcery and witch craft in relatively modern (infrastructure) countries like Saudi Arabia.

I guess Aqa Karzai was correct -- Pakistan and Afghanistan are twins -- they both blame their problems on outsiders.

Ok they have a foothold in 6 districts.

Look what happened to their leadership a few months back.

Afghanistan drone strike 'kills IS commander Abdul Rauf' - BBC News

He and his commanders took an Hellfire and as the old saying goes "that's all she wrote".

It's desperation in order to make themselves look significant. They have no real footing in the region and with the Afghan Taliban and Pakistani Taliban dead against them, they will be wiped out.
Do remember ISIS's real strength has been ex Iraqi military and local tribes who welcomes and joined them. That is not the case here and they seem to be buying people or using brute force.

Government officials and the US-led training force question whether IS can gain a significant foothold in Afghanistan, given that direct links with the Middle East have not been proven and the Taliban remains dominant.

As for the Afghan army not engaging them, well they are digging their own grave faster then. At least the Taliban could be talked to ISIS kill all.....

After failure of TTP, bharatis now pinning their hope on ISIS. Now that's cute. :D

Couldn't believe some of the posts. As much as they were amusing, they don't realise that ISIS has them in the firing line as well.

Let's dissect "ISIS in Afghanistan" a bit more

1. Afghanistan is landlocked
2. The red circle is where ISIS has its "known" stronghold
3. From where ISIS is making its way into Afghanistan ?
a. Is it via Iran ?
b. Is it via Turkmenistan ?
c. Is it via Uzbekistan ?
d. Is it via Tajikistan ?
e. Is it via Pakistan ?

They are from the local population... Only the money is coming in to Afghanistan.

Time is running out to seal the Borders and increase the tank force as well as add more Aircraft so that in case Pakistan is attacked they can retaliate in full force.

.
I am more concerned about their approach towards India, Pakistan and Afghanistan are already devastated. Time to shake hand temporarily.

.
This also increases the prospect of further Pak-Afghan collaboration and joint Pak-Afghan operations against Daesh , no matter how you look at it , india is the looser here
i have a question ,why cant Pak-Afghan collaborate and joint Pak-Afghan operations against taliban, why do you want to bring taliban to the negotiation table, how is taliban diff from daesh, after all most of the members from daesh will be from taliban.
