What's new

In 1916, Ota Benga, an African native who suffered inhumane treatment by being kept in a zoo, committed suicide.

No one said it is 'okay' for slavery. But the final target of the slavery issue is %99.999 on US.

So...Is this true...??

Strangly none seem to draw those arrows pointing eastward. The same amount of african slaves were traded within the Arab ME world (over a time period a couple of hundred years longer). Maybe the fact that not many survived and procreated is the reason this part of african slavery is being ignored.

Yes, what about Africans, Brazil, and Portugal? They imported and transported more slaves than Americans did. Magnitudes more.
Like I said: "I only raped her once. These other guys had all the fun."

But the reality is that it is not about 'whataboutery'. It is about exposing you to facts and truths you never thought existed. From now on, every time you think of slavery, you will think of how little America had to do with that immorality. Your world has changed slightly for the better. Be glad.
So, you think I thought slavery was invented by America and it never existed before?
We are talking about America in this thread. When you bring up other nations, and say "what about them", that's called whataboutery.

Chickenshit.
Sure, you win. I feel like I am going to have to be repeating myself a lot so go ahead, pop that champagne and celebrate. I got better things to do than defend my country's checkered history.

Nationalism sure does blind people just call a spade a spade and move on, isn't that hard.

Yes, we are talking about America and slavery in America in this thread. But at the intellectual level, if America did not invented slavery, as many, possibly including YOU, in this forum believes so, then any thinking person would inevitably ask: What about other countries and their roles in slavery?

It is only natural curiosity. Then facts (post 49) hit them in the face like a bucket of cold water on a winter morning.

That is why there are more 'discussions' about slavery in America than about other countries and societies that participated in the same trade. The more you force the focus on America, in terms of intensity and frequency, the less attention your own is likely to draw. And I used the word 'discussion' generously.

Another interesting fact: Many de facto slaves were initially Irish brought over by the English. They were later described as "indentured servants", a term that is still widely used for similar practices in large parts of the world even today, including the land of PDF. A rose by any other name ... ... (or a slave by any other name ... ... )
