The Sindh home department has banned the entry of Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan for 30 days, apparently in continuation of its previous order with regard to banning rallies and processions on 12 major roads of the city under Section 144 Cr.P.C.
It is for the second time that the entry of Imran Khan has been banned. Earlier in May, the Sindh Home Department had banned the entry of PTI chief for one month in the province.
When contacted, Advisor to Chief Minster on Home Affairs Waseem Akhtar said that the order was issued following intelligence reports that PTI chief Imran Khan will be visiting Karachi on September 12 and lead a rally of his party workers which may be joined by other party workers from Quaid-e-Azam Airport to Regal Chowk via Sharae Faisal, Shahra-e-Quaideen, M.A. Jinnah Road and will address the rally at Regal Chowk.
Akhtar said that the Sindh government had already imposed such ban u/s 144 vide order dated 10th September, in order to ensure the smooth flow of traffic on the main city roads and to avoid traffic jams, adding, It is necessary to prohibit unlawful assemblies, taking out rallies and processions on the main roads of Karachi.
Akhtar maintained that taking out rallies on 12 major roads of Karachi, including Sharea Faisal, Shahrah-e-Quaideen, M.A Jinnah Road, the Sindh government is satisfied that with a view to prevent Imran Khan from acting in a manner prejudicial to public safety and maintenance of public order in Sindh and to avoid the violation of home departments order, which could create serious law and order problems and may disturb the peace of Karachi, it is necessary to prevent him from entering and residing in the province of Sindh.
In this regard, secretary home department, Sindh, in exercise of the powers vested in him under sections 5(1) (a) and (c) of Sindh Maintenance of Public Order Ordinance-1960 has imposed ban on the entry of Imran Khan in Sindh for 30 days with immediate effect.
The notification said: There are reasons to believe that Imran Khan will lead a procession and rally of his party and other political workers in violation of restriction imposed by government u/s 144 Cr. P.C which will disturb peace and tranquility of Karachi and he will deliver provocative speeches which would be prejudicial to public safety and maintenance of good order in Sindh.
He is at liberty to make an appeal to the Sindh government against this order, it added.
