Imran-Putin meeting ‘failed to materialise’ at China's Belt and Road Forum

But in long Run, Russia will have to allign with Pakistan if they want to stabilize Afganistan...For Russia, US is bigger problem who stays in its backyard than its friendship with India....India and Russia will continue to have a transactional relationship as it has been going on since last 15 year.

Imran Khan seemed very busy through out the trip. It didn’t seem like he had that much time to spare - I think this is completely exaggerated.

Whether Pakistan did not pursue the meeting between Prime Minister Imran Khan and President Putin or this meeting failed to materialize does not matter. Right now Imran Khan has enough on his plate like the Indian war mongering under Hindutva terrorist administration, Pakistan economy challenges, investment of Belt and Road in Pakistan and more Chinese Free Trade concessions for the Pakistani exports.

Don't know about the news and the nation, but both tribune and dawn websites look like catering their indian visitors, they intentionally publish controversial news related to pakistan so that they can get maximum visitors from india or indian origin people from all over the world on their website, just check their comments sections, it has always been filled with indian commentators for years and if you post a comment criticizing their indian commentators then the dawn/tribune moderators don't even publish your comment.

Yes, you are perfectly right, unfortunately.

No issue, IK should focus on delivering change he promised - If he actually does reforms (instead of just talks) and able to put country on right path then rest of things will fall on proper place.

Harsh reality is that Pakistan's standing in the international stage is poor. We talk big in discussions due to CPEC and such but we are not much of head turners otherwise. Corruption; Terrorism; Poor Economy; Lack of effort to bring in Foreign Investment - all contributing factors. While fellow nationals make endless fun of India and bash US.

A short meeting on the sidelines of an international summit is not difficult to schedule but Russian leadership was not interested. So much for PAK - Russia strategic paradigm... Oh well.

Pakistan could use Russia as an ally. What use does Russia have for Pakistan ? plus they have a lucrative arms market in India to protect.

You are mistaken. It is a new world. Russia can have very good relations with both the countries, in view of his interests and the respective interests of India and Pakistan. Relations between states have become far less exclusive.

russia does not mind having pakistan as a friend. they are not willing to risk their indian market
it does not help pakistan lacks the $$$ to place large weapon deals

Interesting take in this source: https://eurasiafuture.com/2019/04/3...nt-putin-didnt-meet-pm-khan-at-the-bri-forum/

"Russia’s “Return to South Asia” isn’t just about Pakistan, of course, but involves the entire region and especially its Soviet-era partner India. Moscow receives billions of dollars of much-needed revenue from New Delhi as a result of their military and nuclear energy cooperation, and Russia needs to be cautious about how openly it embraces Pakistan out of fear that India will politicize its mutually beneficial deals with Moscow and threaten to replace them with Western ones if it feels deliberately snubbed. India boycotted the BRI Forum, so President Putin meeting with PM Khan there would have been very scandalous and put pressure on Modi to asymmetrically respond given the sensitive context of his country’s ongoing elections."

There.
