Imran Khan points finger at army over DI Khan jail break

* Says a division of military present in city, still terrorists succeeded

* Sticks to his stance; again refuses to apologise to SC

* Will move court against Fazl for ‘Jew agent’ remark

Staff Report

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan said on Sunday terrorists succeeded in breaking the Dera Ismail Khan jail although one division of the army was present in the city.

“We have to find a new way to fight terrorism. There is an entire division of army in Dera Ismail Khan. It is beyond comprehension as to why law enforcement agencies didn’t counter the terrorists,” Imran told a press conference.

The PTI chief called the jail incident a source of concern for the nation and said Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Pervez Khattak’s inquiry report would be brought forward.

About the contempt of court notice served on him, Imran said that he stood by his earlier stance.

“My remarks might have been misunderstood. What should I apologise for?” he said. Expressing his regard for the Supreme Court (SC), Imran said he had stood with the court in the testing times and he could not even think to disgrace it.

“The independent judiciary is the key point of PTI manifesto and that’s why we backed it in the past,” the PTI chief stated.

Imran also announced that he would move court against JUI-F chief Maulana Fazalur Rahman for calling him an “agent of Jews”.

“We are preparing a notice to send it to Fazl. We will go to court and ask him to prove his allegations,” Imran said.

The JUI-F chief has alleged that the Jewish lobby was behind the agenda of Imran and that the PTI chairman knows nothing about Islam and Pakistan.

Imran also talked about WikiLeaks documents, according to which, Fazal had asked the then US ambassador in Pakistan to back him for premiership.

“Maulana Sahib tell us whether I am an agent of Jews or you have secretly sought the support of foreigners for premiership?” Imran questioned. According to the PTI chief, “record rigging” took place in the May 11 general elections and said the Election Commission of Pakistan and returning officers were involved in it.

He also announced to publish a white paper on August 16 about the rigging, saying that evidence have been collected in this regard.

Imran also criticised the government for increasing the electricity tariff, calling the move “economic murder of middle and lower middle classes”. He said that inflation had increased by 24 percent in July.

“Now the government is increasing the price of electricity from 35 to 75 percent and in some cases to even 100 percent which will affect common man.”

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan raised serious questions on Sunday over last week’s jailbreak in Dera Ismail Khan and called for introspection by all institutions of the state.

He said it was high time to determine why in the presence of an army division in and around D.I. Khan, elite force, police and special jail police, the attackers had managed to get hundreds of their accomplices freed.

“Because of the timely intelligence reports, all necessary preparations were made to thwart the attack. There were three security cordons set up around the jail. Machine gunners were also posted at strategic positions, but no body put up a fight,” Mr Khan said while talking to reporters at his party’s central secretariat.

“If nobody on ground is willing to fight then what can the provincial government do in such circumstances,” he said.

Over the past couple of months, Mr Khan has repeatedly demanded a meeting with the army chief and the prime minister before an all-parties conference proposed by the government for coping with terrorism.

Mr Khan said the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government had initiated a high-level inquiry into the incident and its findings would be shared with the nation.

He reiterated that this was a national issue which needed a corresponding response.

Nobody from the ISPR was available for comments.

Mr Khan said he had told US Secretary of State John Kerry during their recent meeting that since the US drones strikes had killed about 1,500 innocent people so far, whereas only 45 terrorists had been targeted. The strikes were directly affecting efforts of the government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to curb militancy.

He reiterated that the federal government and the military establishment had to come clean on ‘hidden facts’ before calling an APC.

Last week, over 100 militants whom the banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) claimed to have sent freed 248 prisoners from the D.I. Khan jail. According to media reports the attack lasted three to four hours.

PRICE HIKE: Mr Khan severely criticised the government for steps which have triggered a record price hike.

He said the PML-N, instead of giving any new direction to the government as had been expected from it, had taken the easy route of taxing the already taxed middle and salaried classes instead of improving governance.

This, he said, was just the beginning of the results of the increase in general sales tax and other indirect taxation which the government had imposed in the budget. Soon a new wave of backbreaking inflation will be hitting people as a result of increase in the electricity tariff.

PTI leader Asad Umar, who advises Mr Khan on economic issues, said the government planned to increase the electricity tariff by 30 to 65 per cent for domestic consumers and 25 to 95pc for industries which would have a serious impact on the prices of commodities of everyday use. As a result of the increase in electricity tariff, people would have to bear an additional burden of Rs144 billion, he said.

WHITE PAPER:
Mr Khan said the PTI would release on Aug 16 a white paper on rigging in the general elections. The party possesses evidence to show how returning officers rigged the May 11 elections.

He said the PTI had already approached the courts and after issuing the white paper would once again pray to them to order a biometric-based counting of votes in four constituencies.

“If found wrong in my argument for investigation, I will be the first one to offer a public apology for highlighting the issue,” he said.

LIBEL:
The PTI chairman said he would file a libel lawsuit against JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman for accusing him in a TV talk show of acting on ‘Zionist agenda’.

The military establishment, the judiciary, the federal government they are one and the same. Imran is a lone wolf trying to fight this corrupt system.
He should not be concerned any more about the increase electricity tariff and the burden that would fall on the middle and lower class after all this nation needs to suffer the consequences of their decisions. This is the same middle and lower class which voted for Sher and next time they will forget what PPP did and will happily vote for BB and this circle will continue to repeat.

Ummm......No there isn't.
It's really shameful that Ik does not know his own province and the Army deployments in it.
Secondly even if there was a whole corps present there the Army should not have to clean up every time somebody(read everybody) fcuks shiiet up.
Secondly the army can not things into its own hand unless the Police of any government institution asks for its help through proper channels which the police in DI Khan did too late. But nobody cares to mention that shiet,No its bad for the tv ratings.
Bloody hypocrites.

It is imran khans old habbit of bullying others and shifting blame. First he was after MQM, he even said he will drag Altaf hussain to courts, than all of a sudden, he took a U-turn and they became good allies. Than came Nawaz sharif. He threatened to take khuwaja asif to court, but never did. Another U-turn. Than came molanna. He said he will take moulanna to court, the same court he has no faith on. What a clown. There is a reason why he is called Ilzaam khan or U-turn khan. He is an idiot who likes to fool his supporters into thinking he is a Messiah.
