Imran Khan: Pakistan is bankrupt, better India ties will boost trade

Having better relations is always encouraged trade however must always be regulated... by the govt in such a manner that it benefits the country rather destroying the economy by doing free trade.
And we are already doing trade, aren't we ?

Cheap, mass-produced Chinese products including fabric, toys and watches have taken up a major market share in Pakistan.
Thriving imports from China are ballooning country’s trade deficit as imports are rising and exports are falling. “All the above mentioned items are arriving through legal channels,” he claimed.
He said the rising market share of Chinese goods is a threat to small- and medium-sized manufacturers. Big manufacturers are surviving as they export, he added.

Pakistan has proposed unprecedented concessions on Chinese imports in the second leg of the China-Pakistan Free Trade Agreement (CPFTA), a move many say will cause immense damage to local industries....................
..................................The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), he said, had opposed the revised FTA with China, making the case that Pakistan does not have a surplus that could substantially increase the country’s export performance by exploiting a reciprocal incentive regime from China. Local business leaders have issued a stern warning that the step would have a debilitating impact on Pakistan’s manufacturing sector...............
..............................He said Pakistan’s industries require protection so “those products which are manufactured in the country should be placed in the negative list to provide an enabling environment to the local investors and manufacturers.”

India is also affected by Chinese products ..

Bigger companies are buy Chinese parts to assemble in their products for cost cutting Andy increase profit margin..

Atleast if the product quality is better , I would have no issues.
What s happening is low cost low quality products are thriving putting pressure on genuine quality products .

---------

With regards to Imran , he will be facing even more multifaceted challenges ..

Economic situation
Terrorism
Military interference
Opposition parties
Coalition support .

These were the things I presume he will have to face in addition all that faced by Modi in my side.

If he is nice gentleman without stronger resolve and action , nothing will change but himself.

I agree. Trade relations with India should be highly regulated and should not be allowed to exceed a certain amount to avoid any kind of Indian economic leverage on us, for obvious reasons. We can import products that are negligible or anything non-vital (with alternative options always on the table incase things turn sour at anytime).

One thing I fear is trade relations between India and Pakistan taking a precedence over the issue of IoK if trade relations become too big to severe incase of flare-ups in IoK.

Cultural and people-to-people relations must not exist and should be discontinued if they are ongoing for the simple fact that we separated from them (and they from us) for the reason of differences and not similarities.

Also, with regards to Chinese imports wiping out our native industries, for this reason there should have been some kind of protectionist policy with regards to incentivizing them (native industries) and protecting the national market for them. I don't understand why we allow these other nations walk over us in the name of "friendship" and "brotherhood" when all it is is an alignment of national interests and should be kept at that level, but instead we end up resenting these countries who walk all over us when in fact we agreed to these un-equal partnerships.

It's understood for a country to have regulated policy if they are in a position to do that ..

My point is having more players to trade will give leverage ..

Even without trade, Pak could have earned via transit fee..

@Psychic @Desert Fox , my two friends.... I guess this is good as thread as any to ask on your opinion on Imran Khan and the outlook for Pakistan in the short and mid term with him as PM. Can be as short and concise as you want.

The current Pakistani political system needs reform. Anyone going into this political system without the intent to reform it is just another career politician.

Imran Khan is new and has finally achieved the political goal he set out for. Let's see where he goes from here.

Will Imran Khan's government accept Indian Investment in Pakistan? If yes then Imran Khan should ask India to invest in Pakistan. This will help normalize the relationship.

We need investment in varies projects and industries. For Example: Agri, textile, energy, IT, Engineering, Auto industry, tourism, Education, Health Care, etc.

Pakistan need to break the monopoly in auto industry and allow others (Chinese, Korean, European countries) to invest in it. We are paying for cheap crap for higher prices. We need more competition and lower prices.

He is honest and cares for the people of Pakistan. Whether or not he delivers on his promises is yet to be seen.

His slogan is Tabdili and we want nothing less from him. Lets see how he plays.

You do not have money to build a dam while India is having 1000's of dams with world class companies like L&T and many monster billion dollar companies who do very large civil constructions and expertise.

India overtaken korea to become 5th largest auto industry with below SUV's are shipped even to Japan and Europe.
Pakistan can learn a lot from India.

India will defenitely overtake Germany as well in a decade to become 4th largest auto production industry with massive investment aimed both local consumption and export to even developed world.

We are not Somalia or Afghanistan , if that's your perception about us.

And we can do without your bananas, tomatoes, cars, cement(we have giant cement industry)....All of these products will only benefit the few Pakistani importers while the country further sinks in trade deficit. We already damaged our economy by doing free trade with China.

And no, Indian investors/govt won't invest in Pakistan to make our economy better, they would only look after their own country's interests.

You are speaking as if your PM who doesn't go to sleep without bashing Pakistan and your anti-Pak govt and people will just take a 180 degree turn...as if they don't hate us at all...

All of your ideas are utopian, impractical...

Pakistan is not somalia or afghanistan, but you are lagging far far behind once comes to an industry.Even though you claim that you have giant cement industry, but you are not in top 10, while India at No.2.

You are forgetting the fact that pakistan is a biggest consumer of tea, but India is one of the biggest tea producer. So indirectly you are trading with India on many commodities where pakistan is not in picture.

Lol...!!! thought you were long been banned, seems the ban is gone. There is a world of difference between S.Korea indigenous and locally developed car industry and Indian can assembly units where cars are made by S.Korean, Japanese, US and European companies.

Don't you know this simple but huge difference...since you have nothing in between your two ears...you don't know the difference. Cars are simply assembled in India by the principal and owned by them be it Japanese, S.Korean or US, European companies, even the OEM's are all foreign principals, nothing Indian about it. Yes there is TATA's and Mahindra but there technology is all Japanese or from Europe/US. And India cars are worst in quality and safety...

No wonder no one can beat Indians in ignorance and arrogance....

It is not only the foreign car makers, even Indian car makers like the Tata's and the Mahindra's are taking Indians for a ride and producing the worst quality cars ever made anywhere in the world...what is the reason for it, yes there is poverty.

Indian cars Indica and Indigo ‘WORST PERFORMERS’

Indian passenger cars were named as the worst performer among 23 same category vehicles running on South African roads in a study conducted by JD Power and Associates. Tata cars were ranked at the bottom of a list of 23 passenger vehicle brands in South Africa. The vehicles were compared on the basis of initial quality feedback given by customers.

...here you go, why do they choose India to make the worst of the worst quality products...to sell them to poor Indians, I feel bad about all this.

Fiat Makes The Worst Cars In India

Fiat sold 602 units last month which is horrible to say the least. Even Audi and Mercedes-Benz sell more cars in a month than this Italian company. What is the reason? Bad products of course. Just look at the ergonomics of the Punto, the mileage of the Linea, the body roll of the Avventura and the gearbox of the Abarth Punto. They have just degraded the Abarth brand by launching half hearted Abarth cars in India.
