A story can be worth a lot.

The "American Dream" was hugely beneficial to the USA, by bringing in skilled immigrants from across the world to boost their economy.

"India Shining"... well... it didn't do nearly as much.

The difference is that America delivered on expectations, whereas India constantly failed to meet expectations.
