‘Imported products to become 40% more expensive in Pakistan’

Pak economy has many fault lines and most of these line originates from beaucracy/Military/fuedal mindsets. people and politicians only get the blame for all the wrong doings of others.
Pak import is not a big issue if our land mafia who are led by bahria and DHA are tamed downed. middle class and lower upper class spend their saving/earnigns in property business they do not go towards industries/small industry and other productivie activities. also our industry get a good deal of beating at the hand of loadshedding/gas shortages and flooding of local markets by chinese/indian/iranianproducts via free trades and also due to terrorism.
PPP did right things to set pakistan on right course--democracy, parliament empowerment, PMLN did the hardwork of takling loadshedding/gas shortage and build infrastructures via CPEC. Now it is PTI govt job to make ppl invest in industry and other productive activities but unfortunately PTI govt is busy in witchhunting. they already wasted a year and their attitude shows that they will continue to waste oppertunities in next 2 years. when chinese loans payment along with Saudia's loans in oil sector start knocking doors PTI youhtia-ness will breakdown and along with it whole Pakistan setup.

Before we start criticising PPP and PML we should remember that when PPP came into power, Pak was infested with terrorism and faced a heavy shortfalls/deficit in Current aCCt. we hardly had in USD in Statebank to repay loans.
PML also faced CA deficit like every other govt and terrorism. Both of these Govt financed war of Terror and absorbed USA pressures on key foreign policy issues(not to mentioned how thy kept India aggressiveness at bay). PML hs done much more than they have capabilty to deliver.
BUT we did not changed govt due to economy problems or on law and order issues. Govt was changed becouse Some PPL disliked PML and PPP. when govts are changed like that we must prepared for distrust and hatred these method generates both in the country and in comity of nation.
Keeping ppl hyper on steroides and engaged thm engaged in witch hunt like Hitler did, will lead us nowhere . But Boys ego is important to ignore.
God Bless Pakistan!

There shud b blanket ban on imports

Make it your self donot use it
Blanket ban on import will result blanket ban on export as well and not to mentioned OIL pharma, machinery, IT and This Forum ie internet.
Most Stupid IDEA

From import to local products is going to be painful for the addicted.

Change your lifestyle people instead of moaning about it. Go back to how it was in 80s where nearly every household bought local produce.

.
Astaghfirullah. Shame on previous rulers who did nothing to expand country's productivity. Even lentils are imported.

Lets hope present govt can make Pakistani people work hard for money instead of going after easy money. Govt need to make it worth for Pakistanis to produce something by putting heavy duty on imports on item which can easily be produce, Pakistan already has capacity to produce most of daily consumer items it just that it was not profitable to produce locally.

.
Ban every thing in finished form only raw material needed for industry to b allowed.

Nothing will happen....

U wanna use... Than produce. No other way around it... All rest is hogwash

.
Imported daal, you couldn't make it up....Powdered milk even with one of the largest herds in the world....The country needs to be rejuvenated from the ground up. Empower and provide finance to honest small entrepreneurs and improve logistics, that would be a start.

I think you all need to learn that a good export industry is dependent on cheap, surplus and always available electricity which was not anticipated correctly during Musharraf era and neglected entirely during PPP era. PML invested quite a bit, perhaps still not enough, on electricity generation and benefit of it will be reaped by the PTI Government (power plants take many years to complete).

We need a lot of cheap electricity, perhaps the Government should provide subsidy on Solar/Wind Energy and make Solar systems tax free for houses, SMEs and even large enterprises. Infact, the Government must give incentives on self reliance as far as power/electricity is concerned. This will also reduce our overall OIL import bill; however, for a while import cost of Solar systems will increase for which local industries must be established based on best international quality.

The worst thing, at this stage, is the devaluation because we have almost no established industry, especially export oriented. With the devaluation, establishment of new industry becomes that more inefficient and improbable because all machinery and raw material has to be imported. Therefore, the devaluation should have happened slower and over the years to give the SME and Enterprise to setup a localized industry of goods which we usually import. It must also be made sure that quality of local products is at pat with the international products and that the products are financially also competitive.

Its amazing what importers have done to Pakistan economy. It all started in Mushy era and continued with Nawaz/dar stupid policy of keeping rupee overvalued by spending billions of $ from reserves.

It will at least take 15 years to get our own local industry back on track unless someone again decide to control rupee value artificially.
Mushy era time was not fake and Rupee was its own zone.

Just imagine if all the conditions are ideal electricity is available and all other things then what Pakistan can potentially export

Textile was our strongest export item, along with cotton, rice, poultry and meat, fish; and by now we could have established a lot more export potential industries if we had constant supply of cheap energy.

Except textiles nothing else depends on electricity
government should take steps to cut imports instead of trying to increase exports
I think textiles industry is working at it's full potential and those textile industrialists who shifted to Bangladesh one major reason is availability of cheap labour in Bangladesh compared to Pakistan

Everything needs electricity, from cleaning to storing. If we want to become export oriented, we need massive cold storage facilities which require a lot of electricity, not just that the transport systems too need to be of international standard. We export surgical instruments and sporting goods, they all need electricity. Electricity is the mother of industry and export oriented industry is no different.

Bangladesh's man power was NO cheaper than Pakistani man power, our industry shifted to Bangladesh simply because of availability of electricity. I would also like to state that you are wasting my time, honestly, because you are engaging me in matters of which you evidently have no knowledge.

Security services exports don't require electricity. In fact electricity is a hindrance because it means the enemy can see you coming because his lights are on.

Also when ordinary people have electricity they are distracted by things like TVs and radios and don't have as much sex. That reduces the population growth rate. You need a high population growth rate to feed children into your jihadi training camps aka madersas. So electricity availability is the enemy of your strategic assets policy.

Really? How can Pakistani products compete in the 21st century with production techniques from the 19th century?

Actually I think Pakistan have nothing to export except cotton and it's products rice and few other products of small industries
like football surgical instruements etc
and can never become export oriented economy

Security services exports

What does it mean
