we can get nowhere unless we get serious as a nation. I am sure I have missed a few but I am a freaking doctor, not an MBA or a CA.... There must be someone who has an iota of common sense as to effect of increasing duties on essentials will have on the common man

A few years back, TEA was our SECOND largest import. Now for a country under BILLIONS of dollars of debt and an always present trade deficit are we going to discuss if tea is an essential or a luxury bahi?

It should!

The problem is not heavy taxation but the FAILURE to collect taxes and a weak system to do that. Result is that the bigger fish often deceives the weak system and the middle class end up paying extra. If the collection system and tax net is FAIR AND the tax money is being put to good use, everything should be fine.

Pakistan must not spend its foreign exchange on imported jams, bottles , butter , fruits etc . It is a luxury , right step by govt , late though . Secondly Pakistan is spending a lot on imported oil for cars etc , as Pakistan is selling the cheapest petrol to the public , its import bill is rising . Pakistan govt must raise up the petrol prices to the level of other south asian countries and save its foreign exchange which must be utilised for growth related activities.

because government don't want us to use or eat imported goods. neither do it want to bring proper legislation and enforce controls on local industries to produce such quality products at home.

have you even been to the market recently they have increased the price of every thing even those which have no link to the imports altogether.all under the guise of sir jee mahengai ho gai hay.
so if you think this tax is only impacting the imports think again it is influencing every thing for baby diapers to cars (local and imports alike).

ps its not the 5% elite but 48% middle class that use the imports most.
