IMF seeks disclosure economic and defence cooperation between China and Pakistan

Obviously the US is desperately begging for disclosure.

Pakistan should show the IMF a massive middle finger and temporarily see through a rough economic period. These IMF loans aren’t worth it.

Been saying that for a while. Can only hope for some fearless leadership from the Finance Ministry and SBP.

.
I dont know why Pakistan gives so much importance to IMF. They should ask IMF to take a hike. Whatever temporary fiscal/trade imbalance may exist can be made good by the all weather friend PRC, for whom this will be chicken feed.

Regards

To take an IMF bailout or not is a decision to be made by Pakistan, and Pakistan alone. If the IMF terms are too harsh, then the solution is simple: do NOT take the bailout.

.
All those members who are commenting that PTI-led government should tell IMF to take a hike, but what is the solution?

We have borrowed from KSA, UAE and China respectively, and the problem is still there.

Yaar, kuch soch samaj key comment kiya karo. Laughing stock banney kaa bahaut shouk hai?

Absolutely.

Apply for loan in a bank, and relevant officers will request you to disclose your other financial obligations first, or take a hike. Reason is straightforward: RISK EVALUATION

Exactly. Moreover the Chinese CPEC loans/investments (whatever you guy's call it) is a real sticking point. How can any lender provide loan without knowing your current liabilities? And IMF is not an exception.

. .
Quit spinning

When you ask for loans you have to disclose your existing financial situation. Otherwise nobody gives you a loan.
Either that or pledge something valuable as collateral

LOL you are not getting any details regarding CPEC or defence related projects between Pakistan and China.

IMF can go to hell. The Pak government is eventually going to decide against it. There is no way that Pakistan is going to provide any details which are no concern to the USA.

Imran Khan needs to assert influence.

The people need to be told bluntly what the damage is and what it will take to weather the storm. Even if we get IMF loans it is like putting a plaster on a big wound that needs stitching. IMF loans are useless unless you don’t have a proper roadmap. It becomes a vicious circle.

I am not convinced by the governments tax collection progress. Much more needs to be done. Also much more needs to be done on curbing imports.

Well nationalism, patriotism and emotions are always good. But sometimes be realistic. I bet Pakistan don't have any choice other than to get money from IMF. :-)

Pakistan does indeed have choices, each of which comes with its pros and cons. It is up to PMIK to choose the best option for Pakistan.

The tragedy of our democracy is that the government has not taxed a huge group of people for votes and for fear of civil disobedience (as the govt doesn't provide effective services to them) --- and now IK is stuck in this same difficult situation, probably fearing the latter more as he has a good 4 years ahead of him votes wise.

How any govt can go to the IMF after learning about economic hitmen and the lack of evidence of any developing country totally turning itself around and becoming debt free after IMF bailouts is beyond me...

Agreed, it makes zero senses to disclose defense projects to the IMF. The only reason that's happening is so the US and India can gain defense intelligence without having to work for it. That's a sovereignty issue. You can recover from a bad economy even if it takes 20 years of structural reforms. You can't recover if you can't defend yourself.

CPEC involves payments to China. it is not a free lunch
no one is loaning you money so that you can repay the chinese

. .
Tell me when is the first payment to China due?

Pakistan ought to know the full details
It is not the first payment anyone is interested in. it is the full amount

It is amazing an all weather friend like China demanded and got sovereign guarantees on some of the power projects

We need the IMF forex help to buy oil in dollars. We don't need dollars to repay china...china will accept a pkr-yuan exchange.

The first part is understood
Why would China accept PKR-Yuan exchange ? You import way more than China. Your currency is a depreciating asset.

Imf asking too much.americans want complete isolation of Pakistan because their new strategic partner India wants it.block nato supply.let Americans suffer in Afghanistan.

Not to block them but to instate some appropriate fee/toll on flights as well as land routes for Pakistan's economic gains/compensation.
