Why are you guys so obsessed with Pakistan. I mean have you guys seen any Pakistani opening a thread related to Bangla ? i haven't seen any. Actually i haven't seen anyone actually talking about bangladesh in real life. I mean you guys are totally out of world politics. You have what you wished for. A good master. I mean why keep comparing yourself with Pakistan. Pakistan is no match for you. You are a super power, just discard our poor Pakistan out of your brain.

You sure about that bro?

Have you met the average Bangladeshi living in the west? One of their "elite" ones? There is a reason they can only export and perform what they do (only so much brains, and only so much handouts the developed world gives them....which is going to be really bad news for them when it finally ends, given they are not transitioning to anything worthwhile fast enough).

As someone coming from the academic and research background, I have seen Bangladeshis to be much more successful than Pakistanis, particularly in my field. As being a senior PhD student, I have mentored people from both countries, and I have been mentored by senior Bangladeshi student when I arrived here.

It’s a neighbor affect. Not necessarily obsessed but one of the targets that you should cross. As we have crossed now hardly you will see much discussion about Pakistan rather you will see about India as India is the next and Vietnam or Indonesia to some extent.

We started from bottom but crossing one target after another just like the rabbit and tortoise tale where Bangladesh is the tortoise and Pakistan is the rabbit in this case. You are sleeping and we have crossed you. I guess when you will wake up you will realize that.

Data has a big flaw. Imf does not predict a decrease in pakistan GDP. Just a slow down in growth from 6.6% to 4%...so the decline from 312 bill makes no sense. This is fake or the data is not updated.

If showing GDP nominal.....that's not accurate way to compare look at PPP.
Decline from 312 billion is due to massive depreciation of Pak Rupee. Nominal GDP depends on exchange rate of the currency, I hope you know. You depreciating your currency against USD means you have less purchasing power in the international market. Your high inflation also means you have less purchasing within Pakistan also.

Nominal GDP indicate the position of a country's economic standing in the world stage. Currency depreciation can really effect a country's standing in a big way. Currency exchange rate volatility is the main reason Nigeria and South Africa replacing each other as the largest economy of Africa for the several years. Not the GDP growth, because both Nigeria and South Africa has low growth rate. For international comparison, GDP PPP in aggregate term is not suitable for international comparison. That's why US is still the largest economy in the world despite China overtook them in GDP PPP since 2014. Everyone call China 2nd largest economy. It is nominal GDP which indicate which economy is bigger that which one.

Why are some bangladeshis so obsessed with Pakistan that they want to compare everything in their country with that of Pakistan, that looks so stupid.

It is not obsession. You will not find anyone in Bangladesh talking about it. But we are in a Pakistani forum, most of the posts here revolve around national comparison things. Pakistan is a country which badly exploited Bangladesh in the past and made it a ruin in imposed war of 1971. After leaving Bangladesh, many Pakistani economists, politician as well as some international observer predicted that Pakistan will race ahead economically while Bangladesh will remain in gutter. So 1971 separation was a ''Blessing in disguise''. This separation will create opportunity for Pakistan for fast economic and social development. While for Bangladesh, prediction was dire.

See some news article in 1971, 1972, 1973 to gauze the mood of then.
https://www.nytimes.com/1973/04/03/...alled-economic-boon-instability-a-threat.html
https://www.nytimes.com/1971/12/25/archives/pakistans-loss-a-disaster-or-a-blessing.html

So, a 'comparison' inevitably comes into our way even if we don't like it. Many have interests on seeing how things have turned up after 4 decades when those predictions were made. It seems both Pakistanis and other foreigners under estimated on Bangladesh and over estimated on Pakistan which can be seen in current data from 2019. So this year is a water shed moment for both of this two countries, whether you like it or not, deny or acknowledge.
Also I don't get the need to always compare BD with PK.

Talking about the average. Go try meet about 10 or 20 regulars outside academia (or even other ones inside)...you will see what I mean and fast.

Numbers regarding science output, average emigrant income in 3rd party setting, patent filings and export of only one good from home country (given if the smarties are hiding there instead of emigrating) show the reality in the end.

In my field here, Pakistanis are lot smarter than the Bangladeshis I've met overall....and are also much more published. That kind of thing of course varies depending where you are....hence the macro stats are needed.

If a country is truly competitive and going to be the "next engine of growth" like Vietnam, it would not export just one kind of very basic (low MVA) good (to the tune of 90% of total) simply because thats the one it got 0 tariff access on..... and neither would it file just 1 , 2 or even 0 patents a year at the USPTO....and file a miserable number at its own local patent office too.

Again the economic complexity of Vietnam versus BD is quite telling....as are Vietnamese average income in the West compared to BD ppl too.

Let me ask you.

Do you think its something genetic in Bangladeshis?

or are West Bengalis also afflcited?

All 250 million Bengalis?

Please elaborate.

I'm genuinely curious.

Give it time.

Despite the crap being posted here, BD is doing ok.

Also I don't get the need to always compare BD with PK.

What were you thinking OP when you made this thread?

Tell me about it. Most Pakistanis will have nothing against Bangladesh overtaking Pakistan as it really is not seen as a rival or a competitor in Pakistan. In fact as a Muslim country it will be seen with happiness.

However when Bangladeshis come in numbers here and start gloating.over their success, firstly it makes them look petty. If a person living on your street gets a new ferrari and starts driving it up and down the road to show off constantly day after day, sooner or later all neighbours will think for ##### sake get over yourself.

Still many Pakistanis are simply congratulating. If BD is growing in terms of its economy, its people must also grow in maturity. Grow in humility and people will love you. Flaunt, taunt and show off and people will naturally tell you to get lost, especially if you come to their house and do it.

I just think BD folks need to think with a broader perspective.

Stop thinking about BD in the context of PK.

And these repetitive posts comparing the two are indicitave of that.

BD has alot of potential.

Give it time and the world will see.

I fail to see that, I have seen many Bangladeshis trying and failing, but never gave up trying to climb up the socio economic ladder. But Pakistanis are relapsed, happy with their own life as cabbies or other bottom feeding jobs in the market.

Certainly hope so. Bear no ill will for the country as is the case with most Pakistanis. However these constant "we are bigger than you" threads have effectively turned opinion against Bangladesh on this forum for example, not only from Pakistanis but also Indians and Sri Lankans.

Perfectly summarized what this sub forum is like these days, TBF it was just like this with the Indians few years ago thankfully some have matured.. You need to understand starting at the bottom of the barrel any success is over exemplified, With more development will come more humility.. Hopefully

Still dont understand why Pakistan is targeted more often at comparisons ? Political baggage perhaps ??

Mods our forum is being spammed by such threads daily. @waz @Horus @Dubious @WebMaster

Please do something.

Even though annoying these threads doesn't break any forum rules, It's not your forum.. So stop whinging
