IMF April 2015 report, India 7th largest economy.

Lets not rush ahead of ourselves! The 2015-2020 figures in the IMF April 2015 WEO update are only forecasts. It is only the 2014 figures that are confirmed.

0 European Union 18,495,349
1 United States 17,418,925
2 China 10,380,380
3 Japan 4,616,335
4 Germany 3,859,547
5 United Kingdom 2,945,146
6 France 2,846,889
7 Brazil 2,353,025
8 Italy 2,129,276
9 India 2,049,501
10 Russia 1,857,461

So India has officially moved from 10th place in 2013 to 9th place in 2014 and forecast to jump to 7th place this year.

@migflug, by 2020 India is only forecast to be in 6th place behind Britain according to the IMF. So it will be difficult for India to overtake both Germany and Japan by 2025. Maybe 2030 is more realistic.

And China is almost 6 times larger than India.:china:

But not that much times as in the case of GDP PPP and we expect to grow better in future

Guys how has this occurred so quickly.

Last year India gdp was two trillion dollars only abd tenth largest .

Is this to do with rupee growing stronger against dollar ie exchange rates.

Ps next defense budget will be huge
Nope..we gain this position because other currency
(Euro,Rubble and Brazilian Real) are getting weaker as compare to dollar...

Congrats to India! Indian economy is certainly on the track getting bigger. Hope Indian government will let the poors to share the benifits of stronger economy instead of only generating a few billionares...

Why is the media saying Chinese economy is slowing down

.
No. We won't overtake UK this decade. Check the report.
That's the most conservative figure. With 7+ growth already achieved, nominal
We will be 4th largest by 2020 And will overtake japan around 2025
Much before that. I am calculating 5trn nominal around 2020-22. And if that happens it would not be coz of Modi but Raghuram Rajan. With strong rupee difference between nominal and ppp will only decrease and with stable real growth, nominal growth will be multifold. Similar to Chinese growth.

Why is the media saying Chinese economy is slowing down
Coz their growth is decreasing. No one said negative growth.

Yeah it's been a tough year for Russia with the sanctions and all..
i wonder how long will this continue

Only for now , Russia is stabilising their economy with economic support of Asian nations.

India has long way to go to eliminate poverty and hunger ...

To that effect should only be the growth and expansion of economy be held accountable ...

the widening rich- poor gap is a matter of great concern ...
