IIT plans to enroll students from Bangladesh

I like that the for now banned Khaled thinks most students trying to get into govt medicals in Bangladesh are 'fcuking dumb'...so, he left to go study in Ukraine.

You'd think the dumb competition would guarantee him admission locally!

I only call a competition dumb once i beat it. He will learn it eventually.

Yeah "flooding"

http://web.mit.edu/iso/stats_16-17/asia.shtml

7 undergrads and 9 grads at MIT. Real flooding right there.

I bet its the same with NUS or any other university too.
These numbers are interesting...the UG numbers are actually pretty decent...but, most of the other countries have double/triple the Graduate students if not more...

Whereas...our numbers are almost the same...wonder what's up with that?

Undergraduate at MIT is nothing terribly special compared to most good engineering schools.

It is at post graduate that it makes a massive leap in faculty + research resources and intensity (you still need to fight for funding viciously however, esp if you are international student....unless you are tier A++ and already have UG and masters preferably).

Hence the enrolment jumps for countries that have a solid undergrad base (which they can do cheaper but good recognised quality).

That is thus something BD needs to improve (its own undergrad back home)....so that it has a larger pool to begin with that can apply at the post grad at quality world institutions (which is what takes the most resource and time to develop anywhere).

English in GRE

.
English isnt one of the subjects they ask in JEE(Mains) or JEE(Advanced). When I took the test back in '10,it was only physics, chemistry and maths. Unlike indian students, bangladeshi students would have time take only one exam that is,JEE(advanced)
But studying in English might be for many Bangladeshi students. That's the hurdle I am talking about. But the students I have met from Bangladesh are intelligent and fluent in English so I don't see that to be a huge issue.

Ofcourse that shouldnt be the issue as I guess bangladeshi students undertaking JEE would be fluent in english. However, that isnt asked in examination. But once you join IITs, everything is in English! The culture is such that English is promoted and spoken throughout the campus. The most fundamental advantages from the perspective of a bangladeshi student are-
1) Better technical education and campuses
2) Better placements in MNCs at hefty salary
3) Easier access to US univs for MS/PhD after graduating from IITs as a lot of profs in US are from IITs
