If states want UP migrant workers back they have to seek our permission: Yogi Adityanath

. . .
The so called "developed" States of India will have to recalibrate their policies specially towards migrant labour which gives them a cheap workforce. UP has also eased labour laws to attract manufacturing. We may see a shift of manufacturing to UP. The labour will prefer to work in Mathura than Mumbai.

What are your thoughts on this @Nilgiri

Let us see, yes there must be much more competition across the board in India...less industrialised states must indeed have as much draw for their own people as far as possible by promoting better policies to industrialise. In the end India wins (economically), and the Indian labourer wins as his bargaining power is increased.

This will all become much more prevalent with time as Indian logistics network improves (with things like DFC, GST etc) so that there is no huge logistical (and thus industrial) impetus that a coastline etc had like before to near tune of 100% like before.

This is the right way to move forward. All new manufacturing units should be located in Hindi belt states.

This will stop the need for migration as well as distribute the development across all the states.

Western India becomes Financial Hub

Southern India becomes Knowledge hub

Northern India becomes the Manufacturing Hub.

The Dedicated Freight Corridor and Golden Quadrilateral will help in boosting the supply chain. The goal should be that from anywhere in India goods can reach a port in <24 hours. Moving a goods train to a seperate track achieves that as they don't have to stop for passenger or express trains. Elimination of border checkpoint through GST is also good. I read a report that trucks used to take 5-6 hours at a state border.

Apart from current focus on road and rail infrastructure I would like the government to focus on one more critical infrastructure - cold storage (At least one in every district, preferably near a rail head or on the highway.) This will give boost to farmers who would be able to store their produce and sell it in a larger distance. I am sure @jamahir will agree with this.

For all these things land reforms are essential. You can't have vested interests hold up projects just because of land acquisition problems. The Modi government in there first term brought a land acquisition act but it got derailed due to misinformation. It is time to revivive it.

Infact for the first time since I started following news in TN, where the politics is considerably anti north Indians, they are now 'asking' for them not to go. I also did not have a high opinion on the labourers before. But the truth is all political parties are keeping mum cos their business is now which is mainly in construction, real estate and agriculture, factories are shut down and without these labourers they cannot restart again. Tamils have moved up the value chain and while they prefer to do the same job in foreign shores, in domestic shores there are exteeme shortage to do basic labour works.

So again I am sorry and feel sorry if you have focked on the backside by an Indian in US. It happens a lot and being a Bangladeshi it's probably a norm on the job side and also in cricket. So stop whining and start working.

Whatever. We all know ground realities.

Rockstar

Playing a few cords on a guitar doesn't make one a rock star. Plenty of politicians in Bangladesh do that. But yeah the CM being that progressive is unusual.

Bangladesh boasts many many rock outfits, the trend these days is progressive Indie rock rather than Heavy Metal or Death Metal like the last two decades... a sampler,
