If Pakistan starts JFT-17 after1965 arms embargo

This is isn't the alice in wonderland don't waste thread space , talking about the present and the future makes more sense.

Bro we are also not living in wonderland the motive behind to open this thread is to discuss our mistakes and to start planing for a better future not for the fairy tales. If today we start work on ignored fields then in next decades our children will not blame us as ignorant of future some technologies are easy available but after their military use might be not easy available in near future for example laser anti missile defence, high voltage pulse to destroy enemy's electronic warfare and so many other dual use technologies

How about if we started JF-17 project in 1948, soon after the Kashmir liberation war? That way we could have had better than F-16 jet during 1971 war and defeated India easily?

PS: Nothing wrong in imaginations but the fact of the matter is JF-17 was truly developed in early 2000. I was going to close this thread but I guess I would leave it for other Moderators till it lasts

Imagine if Pakistan start JFT 17 fighter jet program in just after the 1965 war when American govt put the arms embargo on Pakistan.and Pakistan decide to go for his own fighter aircraft and start hiring the engineers and designers and aeronautical specialist from different part of the world and also buy some new high tech aircrafts of that time and we had most of them like F-104 , Mirages 3,and also some Chinese aircrafts.because in 60s that program must be so simple because on that time we had enough money to feed the program and to spent on R&D of different technologies for the fighter jets and we was able to get ready the jet in mid 70s with our own resources and later on we can induct new avionics and other update features for the jet and we would also earn the money to sale this jet to third world countries of Africa Latin america just like China did the progress on Soviet help. Why we always look to buy not to produce even in good economic progress time in 60s.

I just try to evaluate the mistake of our past governments but here some people answer are telling me that in future we will keep going on these mistake and we never catch the run on time but always looking towards the "great f 16" and "chinese new copy maal" .keep going on my brothers and @Aether close this thread i dont want your great favour

Pakistan can't start such co development project at that time since KAMRA and facilities are not mature but we should have started this project in mid 80s or early 90s.

How about if we started JF-17 project in 1948,

May be O.P wants to say our own or co development of fighter aircraft not as modern as JF-17 back in 60s. Since Indian started these type of unsuccessful efforts quite early like Marut.

I doubt it would have went as smooth as you picture it. even China and it's fighter programs didn't really take off til the late 90's and are based off of Russia,French, and Israeli designs.

why does Pakistan want so many JF-17s?? is it because they have the production of it, or is it because it is a cheaper aircraft to replace multiple jets? and why doesn't Pakistan procure J-10s and J-31s for the future?

Because there is a lots of confusion in the Paf---and top Paf generals have been bought off by the U S interests.

I'm glad I didn't tell you that Italy had (and still has) 24 second-hand Typhoons for sale and that it last offered them to Romania for $1.10 billion U.S. in 2011. Or that Spain sought to offer Peru 18 Typhoons for $60-70m a unit.

Assuming PAF wants it, is it possible to get 'em? Will it be a sustainable platform keeping in view spares and technical assistance?

Depends on the Typhoon Consortium. Right now the member countries (U.K., Germany, Italy and Spain) will have a higher incentive to sell new-built planes, so as to feed domestic employment. Best case scenario, PAF could get them to agree to a mix of used and new Typhoons, but the latter would come in at $250-325m a unit. The costs generally include spare parts and medium-term support.

Would Rolls Royce be willing to sell us just the engine EJ-200? How much would that cost IF it becomes possible?

Pakistan's future fighter jets could be J-20 or F-35, same was hinted by ACM back in March 2016, because PAF are in need of an aircraft for future whom design can cater all future needs, JF-17 design has its own limitation you cant expect much out of it, though it is good enough for its current roles but for strike above said aircraft will be good

Despite the recent news surrounding Turkey’s reported interest in having Pakistan participate in the TFX program in some shape or form, the fact – at the end of the day – is that China is one of Pakistan’s principal vendors of high-tech equipment. If one removes the U.S., then China is essentially the only supplier (of any significance). That said, this does not mean that the FC-31 would be selected by the PAF.

the tone of the PAF on the subject of next-generation fighters appears to be one of trying to come up with a solution that is derived from its own requirements, as opposed to trying to adapt an existing design. Ultimately, China would likely remain as Pakistan’s principal partner
