India once ruled by a British company (search "company raj"). Yes, just a company (not a kingdom/empire) like GM, Google, etc today. I think they are very humiliated because of that. And IMO, they want to achieve a global superpower status very badly, to save their face.

Same with here. Indonesia once ruled by a Dutch company. Many Indonesians are very humiliated, just like Indians.

That is Modi selling point. Selling the dream of making Indian into superpower. Any indian politician selling honest, hardwork improving strategy with no bragging will not be well liked and elected.

I doubt he will even survive this term. The Indian going send manned mission. Maybe India will be the first country likely to kill someone on their first attempt to space. They are lucky they killed a moon lander/rover and not an indian for this trip
