I think our societies need these thugs, looters and criminals to keep them intact. Maybe because at heart we are the same. Either actively being agents of this chaos, or enjoying masochistic pleasure out of the constant madness. Balkanization may happen if we actually start thinking properly like adults, which is quite the opposite of how we behave. Because nothing logical says that we should stay intact, given the absolute disharmony in our thought processes individually.

Fully agree, except for the fact that sometimes external geopolitical alignments and factors come into play, and execute otherwise unwarranted changes. Many examples in 20th century.
